Top 10 NIT Colleges in India - NIRF Ranking 2024

Exam

The National Institutes of Technology are autonomous public institutes designed to provide students with higher education. These institutes are presided over by the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007 which has also proclaimed them as Institutes of National Importance parallel to Indian Institutes of Technology. The National Institutes of Technology being Institutes of National Importance are explicitly recognized and funded by the Government of India. These institutes fall under the category of the Top Ranked Engineering Colleges. The NITs are free to set up their own curriculum as they are autonomous public institutes, and the language of command is English in all the NITs.

There are 31 NITs across the country offering around 19,000 seats to the engineering aspirants. Admission to B. Tech program is carried out through JoSAA Counselling based on candidates’ rank in JEE Main Exam conducted by the NTA. NITs also offer admission to M. Tech programs based on the marks obtained by candidates in GATE Exam. The seat allocation for the M. Tech program at NITs is done through CCMT Counselling (Centralized Counselling for M. Tech/M. Arch/M. Plan/M. Design).

As per the MHRD NIRF 2023 Ranking, NIT Trichy, NIT Karnataka, NIT Rourkela, NIT Warangal, and NIT Calicut are some of the top ranked NITs across the country. NIT Trichy is one of the top engineering institutes across India attaining 8th rank as per NIRF Ranking 2023. Out of the total, 21 NITs have managed to secured positions under 100.
