What is XAT ?

The Xavier Aptitude Test prominently known as XAT is a National Level Entrance Test conducted by Xavier School of Management (XLRI) on account of Xavier Association of Management Institutes (XAMI).  XAT is conducted every year to select potential students for management programmes offered in top business schools, associated with the institution as part of XAMI. Apart for XAMI 150 other management colleges also accept XAT score for shortlisting students in their management programmes.  

XLRI has been conducting XAT exam for more than 60 years now. It was the year 2018 when the pattern of the entrance exam has been changed from offline pen-paper mode to computer-based online mode. The exam is conducted in major cities across the nation like Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Delhi, Goa, Jammu and others are named to be few examination centres for XAT.

The entire XAT examination paper is divided into two parts depending on the type of question, one is objective type and other is subjective type. The examination pattern can also be divided into moderate and difficult depending upon the difficulty level of the examination.

  • Paper A is Subjective Type and allotted 140 minutes for that.
  • Paper B which is objective type and 40 minutes are allotted for that.

The two papers need to be attempted in a single slot of the exam in the given time period of 3 hours.

XAT 2019 Eligibility

XAT Eligibility

 

Given below is the eligibility criteria of the XAT Exam:

  • The candidate should be a graduate or hold an equivalent bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized institute or university.
  • Candidates have to complete their graduation by June 10, 2019.
  • All Indian candidates must appear for XAT 2019. However, NRI and foreign candidates may apply through GMAT score (except Dubai and Kathmandu wherein candidates have an option of appearing for XAT 2019.)

 

There are 11 member institutes and 150 institutions in total that participate having separate eligibility criteria. 

Eligibility criteria for HRM/BM

  • Bachelor's degree for 3 years duration must be possessed by the candidate from any recognized institute. 

Eligibility Criteria for GMP

  • Bachelor degree in India or abroad for a minimum of 5 years of experience by March 31, 2019. Candidates can either apply through XAT or GMAT scores.

Application Fees

The XAT Application form will be released in August 2018. The last date to fill the XAT Application has not been declared yet. The XAT Application fee is INR 1650 for all categories. INR 2000 would be charged for late application. The fee details are as mentioned below.

Applicants can choose either of the following modes for XAT Application fee payment :

  • Online - Credit/Debit/Netbanking
  • Offline - Cash Payment or DD. A printout of XAT Pay-in-slip and visit any IDBI Bank branch to make cash payment. DD has to be made in favor of "XLRI Jamshedpur A/c XAT" payable at Jamshedpur.

*In case of the offline mode, candidates should upload the fee payment details on the XAT Registration page.

XAT 2019 Admit Card

Admit card can be downloaded from official website of XAT once the admit cards are released by the authorities

Steps to Download XAT Admit Card:

  • Visit the official website
  • Click on the ‘Download admit card' tab
  • Enter details like XAT 2019 Registration Number and DOB in DD/MM/YY format and enter submit
  • Download the admit card
  • Take a printout of the admit card

The XAT Admit Card would be released on December 20, 2018. The XAT 2018 Admit Card would be available online on the XAT Official Website. XAT Admit card would contain relevant information regarding the candidates, the exam location and the timings. By entering the XAT ID and password, candidates can log in and download the same.

If there arises any discrepancy in the admit card, the candidate has to notify the XAT Officials from XLRI Jamshedpur to make changes.

  2. Roll Number and XAT ID
  3. XAT 2018 Schedule

XAT 2019 Exam Pattern

XAT 2019 would be conducted in an online mode on January 6, 2019. Earlier the XAT exam was a paper pen-based exam. XAT exam pattern will make candidates aware of the pattern of the Question Paper, Marking Scheme, Duration, Total Count of Questions etc. XAT would be an online paper-based for 3.5 hours.

The examination is broadly divided into 2 parts - Part 1 & Part 2

Paper 1 of XAT consists of three sections having around 70 Objective questions which are Multiple Choice Based.
Paper 2 has two sections which are a mix of both objective and subjective questions. The number of questions keeps changing every year. The answers need to be given by selecting the right option with the mouse.
 
XAT 2019 Notification with XAT Dates is expected in the month of July. About 90,000 candidates are expected to give XAT this year. About 150+ B-schools accept XAT scores all over the country.

XAT 2019 Result

XAT 2018 Result was declared in January 2018.

The details about XAT 2019 Results are as follows:

  • The score of XAT 2019 would remain valid for a year.
  • On the basis of the result, the candidate would be able to get admitted into more than 150 B-schools in the country.
  • The percentage and percentile of GK section would be calculated independently and would not be included in the calculation of the total percentile.
  • The highest XAT score last year was 51.75.

XAT 2018 Result

According to XAT 2018 results,

  • A total percentage of 51.28 was equivalent to 99.751 percentile
  • A total percentage of 47.12 was equivalent to 99.278 percentile
  • A total percentage of 45.64 was equivalent to 98.896 percentile
  • A total percentage of 42.82 was equivalent to 97.891 percentile
  • A total percentage of 40.83 was equivalent to 96.842 percentile

XAT Cut-Offs

XAT cut off will be declared soon after the XAT result is out. College with the highest cutoff is XIMB with 95% cutoff, cut offs of XLRI varies from 88 to 93 and colleges like IMT GZB, Great Lakes Institute of management has 90% cut off.

XAT is a standout amongst the most prominent and competitive exams in our nation. There are numerous A+ evaluated establishments which acknowledge XAT scores. The most well-known among these are XLRI, Jamshedpur, and XIM Bhubaneswar. The Selection procedure begins with the entrance test i.e. XAT. In the light of XAT cut offs, candidates are required to give the GD and PI round. The criteria for conclusive determination incorporating the XAT score are candidate' scholarly record, the general profile of the candidate, work experience and so forth.

XAT 2019 Selection Procedure

XLRI issues a final call letter for the students who have been selected for the interview round. The XAT 2019 Interview Letter could be downloaded from the website. The final selection or the list that determines the admission of the candidates are usually declared once the interview rounds are over. The participating institutions would declare the final selection list of the candidates on the basis of the performance of the candidates in the rounds that were held.

The XAT Selection Procedure is conducted at B-schools and there are no common counselling sessions held. The rounds may vary across B-schools with respect to XAT Selection Criteria in terms of Group Discussion/Case Study/Personal Interview/Written Ability Test.

As per the information was given by XAT Authorities, participating institutes ask for the shortlisted essay of the candidates who are selected without conducting a separate round for the same.

Test Centres

Candidates appearing for XAT exam can refer to the list of XAT Test Centres which is conducted in about 40+ cities all over India. XAT 2018 was attempted by close to 90,000 candidates. As per the official website of XAT, there were 2 exam centres outside India: Dubai and Kathmandu. The details of XAT Test Venue would be provided on the XAT Admit Card.

The duration of XAT is for about 2 hours 50 minutes. Paper 1 consists of 72 Questions from sections like Quantitative Ability, English, Logical Reasoning and Decision Making. Paper 2 has a mix of Subjective and Objective questions from the General Knowledge and Essay Writing Section. The examinees are allowed to leave about 13 questions unanswered after which a negative marking of 0.05 marking is applicable.

XAT 2019 Highlights

The online registration procedure for XAT 2018 has already begun. XAT exam is scheduled on 6th January 2019 for about 3.5 hours. The registration window would remain open until 30 November 2018. The following are some points students must consider:

1) Late Registration Window: XLRI has made arrangements to enable late registrations. Applicants unable to register by November 30 can pay an additional fee of INR 350 over and above INR 1650. The last date to register for XAT exam is open until December 11, 2018.

2) XLRI Programme Additional Fee: The Late Fee for XLRI Programme stands increased to INR 500 instead of INR 300 for the number of programmes in which a candidate is interested.

3) Exam Duration: The exam is conducted for a duration of 3.5 hours that would be conducted in an online format. An additional time limit of half an hour would be allotted to the candidates.

4) Important Dates: XAT Important Dates have been announced for the candidates which must be taken note of in order to prepare well.
