What is XAT ?

The Xavier Aptitude Test prominently known as XAT is an all-India test conducted by XLRI as an entrance test for its management programmes as well as for many other reputed top B-Schools in the country. XAT is conducted every first Sunday of January.

The Xavier Aptitude Test prominently known as XAT is an all-India test conducted by XLRI as an entrance test for its management programmes as well as for many other reputed top B-Schools in the country. XAT is conducted every first Sunday of January. 

XAT is conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur on the behalf of Xavier Association of Management Institutes. The test spans across a timeframe of 3 hours and 30 minutes consisting of both objective and subjective questions. 

Until previous year, Xavier Aptitude Test was an offline Paper-based Test.

This exam is conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur every year. It is one of the major MBA entrance exams in India. It is attempted by 90000 students each year. More than 150 Business schools accept XAT score.

XAT exam will be conducted on 7th January 2018 and by month end i.e 31st January 2018 XLRI will announce the result. Each XAT participating Institute release it  XAT cutoff after the result is announced.

XLRI offers three two-year management programmes namely

  1. Human Resource Management (HRM)
  2. Business Management Programme (BM), and
  3. Global MBA Programme.

XAT Registration would be ending on 30th Nov 2017. For registration, candidates need to visit xatonline.net.in click on Register, create a new account with your personal email id and with the help of unique XAT ID and registration link candidates can then apply online.

Candidates need to check the process of applying carefully, it includes completing your profile at first, and then candidates can access the form, after filling all the details of the registration form, candidates are required to make the payment. Once the payment is done candidate get the confirmation of application procedure. 

The application fees for XAT Exam is INR 1650 and the late fee is INR 2000. 

XAT eligibility is almost same as that of other MBA entrance exam, candidates need to be a graduate in any discipline and there is no fixed percentage required for appearing for XAT exam. Candidates have to complete their graduation by June 10, 2018.

"It is mandatory for appearing for XAT exam in case of Indian national, however, NRI and foreign candidates may apply through GMAT score (except Dubai and Kathmandu wherein candidates have an option of appearing for XAT 2018."

From this year onwards XAT exam will be an online exam, it was earlier a pen paper-based exam.XAT exam pattern contains the details of the pattern of the Question Paper, Marking Scheme, Duration, Total Count of Questions etc. The exam duration of the exam would be 3.5 hours.

XAT 2018 Highlights

The online registration procedure for XAT 2018 has already begun. XAT exam is scheduled on 7th January 2018 for about 3.5 hours. The registration window would remain open until 30 November 2017. The following are some points students must consider:

1) Late Registration Window: XLRI has made arrangements to enable late registrations. Applicants unable to register by November 30 can pay an additional fee of INR 350 over and above INR 1650.The last date to register for XAT exam is open until December 11, 2017.

2) XLRI Programme Additional Fee: The Late Fee for XLRI Programme stands increased to INR 500 instead of INR 300 for the number of programmes in which a candidate is interested.

3) Exam Duration: The exam is conducted for a duration of 3.5 hours that would be conducted in an online format.An additional time limit of half an hour would be allotted to the candidates.

4) Important Dates: XAT Important Dates have been announced for the candidates  which must be taken note of in order to prepare well.

XAT 2018 Exam Pattern

XAT 2018 would be conducted in an online mode for the first time on January 7, 2018. Until Last year, XAT was a paper pen-based exam. XAT exam pattern will make candidates aware of the pattern of the Question Paper, Marking Scheme, Duration, Total Count of Questions etc. XAT would be an online paper-based for 3.5 hours.

XAT Exam pattern

The examination is broadly divided into 2 parts - Part 1 & Part 2.

Paper 1 of XAT consists of three sections having around 70 Objective questions which are Multiple Choice Based.
Paper 2 has two sections which are a mix of both objective and subjective questions. The number of questions keeps changing every year. The answers need to be given by selecting the right option with the mouse.
 
XAT 2018 Notification with XAT Dates was announced on August 14, 2017.About 90,000 candidates are expected to give XAT this year.About 140+ B-schools accept XAT scores all over the country.

XAT 2018 Eligibility

Given below is the eligibility criteria of XAT Exam:

  • The candidate should be a graduate or hold an equivalent bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized institute or university.
  • Candidates have to complete their graduation by June 10, 2018.
  • All Indian candidates must appear for XAT 2018. However, NRI and foreign candidates may apply through GMAT score (except Dubai and Kathmandu wherein candidates have an option of appearing for XAT 2018.

XAT Eligibility

There are 11 member institutes and 150 institutions in total that participate having separate eligibility criteria. 

Eligibility criteria for HRM/BM

Bachelor's degree for 3 years duration must be possessed by the candidate from any recognized institute. 

Eligibility Criteria for GMP

Bachelor degree in India or abroad with a minimum of 5 years of experience by March 31, 2018. Candidates can either apply through XAT or GMAT scores.

Application Fees

The XAT Application form was released on August 16, 2017. The last date to fill the XAT Application online is November 30, 2017. The aspirants must fulfill the XAT Registration requirements beforehand filling the form. The XAT Application fee is INR 1650 across all categories. INR 2000 would be charged for late application. The fee details are as mentioned below.

Applicants can choose either of the following modes for XAT Application fee payment :

Online - Credit/Debit/Netbanking

Offline - Cash Payment or DD. A printout of XAT Pay-in slip and visit any IDBI Bank branch to make cash payment. DD has to be made in favor of "XLRI Jamshedpur A/c XAT" payable at Jamshedpur.

In case of the offline mode, candidates should upload the fee payment details on the XAT Registration page.

XAT 2018 Selection Procedure

XLRI issues a final call letter for the students who have been selected for the interview round. The XAT 2017 Interview Letter can be downloaded from the website. The final selection or the list that determines the admission of the candidates are usually declared once the interview rounds are over. The participating institutions would declare the final selection list of the candidates on the basis of the performance of the candidates in the rounds that were held.

The XAT Selection Procedure is conducted at B-schools and there are no common counselling sessions held. The rounds may vary across B-schools with respect to XAT Selection Criteria in terms of Group Discussion/Case Study/Personal Interview/Written Ability Test.

As per the information was given by XAT Authorities, participating institutes ask for the shortlisted essay of the candidates who are selected without conducting a separate round for the same.

About 90,000 candidates are expected to appear for XAT 2018 this year which is slated to be held online for the first time on 7th January 2018.

XAT 2018 Admit Card

Admit card can be downloaded from official website of XAT once the admit cards are released by the authorities.

In order to download the admit card candidates need to perform the following steps:

  • Visit the official website
  • Click on the ‘Download admit card' tab
  • Enter details like XAT 2018 Registration Number and DOB in DD/MM/YY format and enter submit
  • Download the admit card
  • Take a printout of the admit card

The XAT Admit Card would be released on December 20, 2017. The XAT 2018 Admit Card would be available online on the XAT Official Website. XAT Admit card would contain relevant information regarding the candidates, the exam location and the timings. By entering the XAT ID and password, candidates can login and download the same.

If there arises any discrepancy in the admit card, the candidate has to notify the XAT Officials from XLRI Jamshedpur to make changes.

The XAT 2018 Admit Card would be carrying the following information:

  1. Name of the Candidate
  2. Roll Number and XAT ID
  3. XAT 2018 Schedule
  4. Photo and Signature of the Candidate

Test Centres

Candidates appearing for XAT exam can refer to the list of XAT Test Centres which is conducted in about 40+ cities all over India. XAT 2018 was attempted by close to 90,000 candidates. As per the official website of XAT, there were 2 exam centres outside India : Dubai and Kathmandu. The details of XAT Test Venue would be provided on the XAT Admit Card.

The duration of XAT is for about 2 hours 50 minutes. Paper 1 consists of 72 Questions from sections like Quantitative Ability, English, Logical Reasoning and Decision Making. Paper 2 has a mix of Subjective and Objective questions from the General Knowledge and Essay Writing Section. The examinees ae allowed to leave about 13 questions unanswered after which a negative marking of 0.05 marking is applicable.

XAT 2018 Result

XAT 2018 Result is declared in January 2018. The details are as follows:

  • The score of XAT 2018 would remain valid for a year.
  • On the basis of the result, the candidate would be able to get admitted into more than 150 B-schools in the country.
  • The percentage and percentile of GK section would be calculated independently and would not be included in the calculation of the total percentile.
  • The highest XAT score last year was 51.75.

  • A total percentage of 51.28 was equivalent to 99.751 percentile
  • A total percentage of 47.12 was equivalent to 99.278 percentile
  • A total percentage of 45.64 was equivalent to 98.896 percentile
