Exam Toppers

 NMAT Topper 2014-Anjum Sheikh

NMAT Topper Strategy:

  • Started with clearing the basics and vanishing all the doubts.
  • After strengthening the basics, attempted the mock tests and analyzed the mistakes committed.
  • Focused on the weak areas and increased the question-solving speed.
  • Followed the strict time management, speed, accuracy and knowledge plan.
  • In Quantitative Ability, clearing the basics, increasing the speed and accuracy was the main focus.
  • In Logical Reasoning, practiced a lot of questions as this section is very time-consuming.
  • In English Language Skills, improved the vocabulary and practiced the reading comprehension.
  • Took out time for recreation activities also to re-energize oneself for focused studies.

Subject Experts

Anjum Sheikh NMAT Topper shared her thoughts regarding NMAT Exam :

  • Initially, I spent time in clearing my doubts and learning the basics. Once my doubts were cleared and my basics were strong, I started with the mock tests. I made sure that each day I spend a minimum of 3 hours for solving problems. For cracking NMAT with a good score a person needs to increase his speed of solving problems and this was my basic strategy.
  • I think coaching classes help you to clear your basics along with study materials and mock tests. But in the end, it is the student himself who need to put efforts to crack any MBA exam. If a student is determined by what he wants, then he can get through the entrance exams without any coaching or mentoring.

Preparation Tips

  • To prepare for language skills it is necessary to read a lot of books and concentrate on increasing your vocabulary.
  • For Quantitative Skills, it is important to clear the basics thoroughly and then practice problem-solving. QS requires time management and accuracy, so one needs to get used to problem-solving at a fast speed.
  • For Logical Reasoning practice is very important, you must practice and solve a lot of problems as the questions are easy but are very much time-consuming.

Ans3.The NMAT exam for the academic session 2016 will be offered in a testing window from Oct 6, 2015 to Dec 19, 2015.

Q4.How is the NMAT designed?

Ans.The NMAT exam has three sections: Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning. Each section is individually timed. Test takers need to answer questions of each section within the allotted section time. Once the test taker completes a section, whether the test taker selects to move to the next section or if time runs out, the test taker will not be able to return to that section.

Q5.Can a test taker review questions and /or sections?

Ans.Yes, a test taker can review the sections of the exam within the allotted section time. The Review Screen at the end of every section will allow the test taker to either move directly to incomplete (unanswered) questions, flagged for review questions or review all or any questions. Once a test taker has moved ahead from one section to the next section, he/she will not be able to return to the previous section. Hence, test takers should complete (answering and reviewing) each of the three sections in their respective allotted time limits.

Q6.If a test taker completes answering and reviewing a section before the allotted section time completion, does the balance time get added to the next section(s)?

Ans.No, one cannot add balance time of one section to the other. Q8.What is the advantage of having a 75-day window to test?

Ans.The 75-day window enables the assessment of a test taker's best performance and at the same time reduces the stress associated with a single sitting test or test offered in a short time window. The longer test window provides the test takers flexibility to take the test when they are best prepared and avoid conflicts with other life events. The test takers will also get the convenience to reschedule the test in case of any exigency. The longer window also provides the test taker with the opportunity to retake the test (maximum 3 attempts, including "No Show") in case they feel that their performance was impaired on the test day for any reason or if they feel they can improve their performance in retake attempt.

Q9.Are there any eligibility requirements to sit for the NMAT?

A test taker may be able to improve his/her score provided he/she performs better in re-takes. However, there is no guarantee that the scores will improve in subsequent attempts/retakes. Scores will be equated for all test takers and percentile scores will be calculated after all test takers have taken their test(s). Results will be announced on Friday, January 15, 2016 on NMAT website www.nmat.org.in.

Q18.What is the rationale behind allowing test takers to test multiple times?

Ans.Test takers have the option to take the NMAT a maximum choice of three times during the 75-day testing window. This option enables the assessment of the test takers' best performance.

Q19.When will the NMAT results be declared?

Ans.The NMAT scaled scores by section and test total scaled score will be announced within 4 to 5 weeks after the test taker has tested. The percentile scores will be calculated after all the test takers have taken their exam(s) and announced on Friday, January 15, 2016 on NMAT website

Q20.What do you mean by scaled scores and percentile scores?

Ans.Scaled scores - All the test forms are equated to account for any differences in overall difficulty and the raw test scores are placed on a common scale. This is done to ensure scores are comparable across test forms such that the scores are not impacted by different test takers getting different test forms. Percentile scores - The percentile rank or score shows how a test taker scored when compared to all other test takers who took the exam (e.g. all test takers who took the NMAT exam). For example, if a test taker is said to be at the 75th percentile, the test taker scored better than 75% of the test takers who took the NMAT.

Q21.How will a test taker receive the results?

Ans.Test takers will not be sent any results directly. NMAT will publish scaled scores section wise and test total scaled score will be announced within 4 to 5 weeks after the test taker has tested. The final percentile results on Friday, January 15, 2016 on NMAT website.

Q22.How does a test taker register for NMAT?

Ans.Test takers can register for NMAT through an online registration application available on the website from 9:00 am (IST) onwards starting Jul 2, 2015. Online registrations will close at 11:59 pm Indian Standard Time (IST) on Oct 5, 2015. GMGC shall not accept registrations from test takers in any other mode or form.

Q23.Why should a test taker register early?

Ans.Test taker will be able to schedule the test on his / her preferred date, time slot and Test Centre only if seats are available at that Test Centre for the date and time slot being sought (First Come First Serve basis). As test takers will be required to schedule their test after registering through an online application system, the earlier they register, the sooner they will receive their username and password and they will be able to schedule their test online. Test takers may not get their preferred date, slot and Test Centre if other test takers have already taken up the available seats for that particular date, slot and center. In such a situation, test takers would need to look at other options of date, time slot and Test Centre and schedule their test accordingly.

Q24.Does the "First come First serve" principle apply to Registration or Scheduling or both?

Ans."First come First serve" principle applies to both registration and scheduling. The earlier one registers and makes payment, the earlier will he/she receive the scheduling information. And the earlier one schedules the test, higher are the chances of getting preferred date, time and test location.

Q25.Can a test taker edit his/her registration application post registration payment?

Ans.Test takers will be able to edit only certain fields like Programme Selection and Candidate Preferences in their registration form after submitting the registration fee. Test takers are advised to check the information entered in the online registration form very carefully while registering and once again before submitting the registration as they will not be allowed to make any changes after submission.

Q26.If a test taker could not register online for the NMAT, as he/she was not able to proceed after "I agree". What should the test taker do?

Ans.This application uses JavaScript. Test takers should make sure that JavaScript is enabled in their browser. To enable JavaScript go to: Tools>>Internet Options>>Security>>Custom Level. Scroll down until one sees the section labeled 'Scripting' Under 'Active Scripting', select 'Enable' and click OK. Click refresh and restart the registration process.

Q27.Can a test taker register multiple times?

Ans.Test takers are not allowed to make duplicate/ multiple registrations. Candidature of a test taker is liable to get rejected and fee forfeited, if the test taker registers multiple times. Test takers applying to various programs being offered by NMAT accepting schools are also required to register only once and take up to a maximum of 3 attempts, including NO SHOWS. For retakes of the exam test taker has to pay applicable fees as per retake policy. Candidature of a test taker is liable to get rejected if the test taker has registered multiple times and has taken tests under different registration numbers.

Q28.What if a test taker cannot register by the last date of registration? Does he/she have an option of registering late?

Ans.Test takers who are unable to register in the Registration window between Jul 2, 2015 and Oct 5, 2015 will have the option of registering through the online registration application available on the website during the Late Registration window from Oct 6, 2015 to Oct 19, 2015 by paying the prescribed fee as specified on the website.

Score Evaluation

The final scorecard will include a scaled score for each section, a total score as well as a percentile ranking. Here is the range of scores possible on the different sections of the NMAT by GMAC exam.

  • Quantitative Skills
  • 0-144
  • Language Skills
  • 0-96
  • Logical Reasoning skills
  • 0-120
  • Total
  • 0-360

The window wise scores are released 4-5 weeks after you have taken the test and your scorecard will be updated with scaled scores for all the attempts. You will be notified by email once the scorecard is available and you can download the scorecard by logging into your NMAT by GMAC account. The final percentile rankings for this year will be calculated after all the candidates have taken their exam(s) and will be announced and updated on your scorecard by January 2019.

Scaled Scores and Percentile Scores-

  • Scaled scores - All of the test forms are equated to account for any differences in overall difficulty and the raw test scores are placed on a common scale. This process ensures that scores are comparable across test forms such that the scores are not impacted by different candidates getting different test forms.
  • Final Percentile Scores: The Final Percentiles for each year are calculated at the end of the year after all candidates have completed taking the NMAT by GMAC exam. Your scorecard and the scorecard that is sent to schools will be updated with the final percentiles by January 2019.
