XAT 2024 Result has been released on  Janaury 20, 2024. The XAT 2024 exam was held on January 7, 2024. Candidates wer allowed to raise any objections to the answer key.  XLRI Jamshedpur and the Delhi NCR campus of over 150 MBA colleges will consider XAT scores ranging from 50 to 95+ percentile for admission to the MBA program in 2024.

What is XAT Exam?

The Xavier Aptitude Test prominently known as XAT is a National Level Entrance Test conducted by Xavier School of Management (XLRI) Jamshedpur on account of Xavier Association of Management Institutes (XAMI).  XAT is conducted every year to select potential students for management programs offered by top business schools, associated with the institution as part of XAMI. Apart from XAMI, 160 other Top MBA Colleges in India also will accept XAT Score for shortlisting students in their various PGDM Programs. XLRI Jamshedpur has been conducting the exam for more than 70 years now. Last year the pattern of the entrance exam was changed from offline pen-paper mode to computer-based online mode.

XAT 2023

The registration process can be completed and the application form can be filled online on the official website of from July 15, 2023. Candidates willing to take the exam must also make the registration fee of INR 2100 via any online payment gateway. The last date to apply for XLRI XAT Exam 2024 is 30 November 2023.

Who Conducts the Exam?

XAT exam is conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur on behalf of XAMI. For over 72 years, XLRI has been organizing this nationwide exam to identify the most suitable candidates for management education. In the previous year, XLRI conducted the exam as a center-based test in 72 cities across India.

XLRI has released the Exam Notification for XAT 2024 earlier than the previous year, on July 15, 2023, instead of August. The exam notification includes essential details such as the exam date, registration date, and other relevant information about the exam. XAT 2024 Exam: Key Changes in XAT Exam Pattern

XLRI has announced important changes in XAT Exam Pattern 2024.  XAT 2024 exam pattern will consist of five sections with 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and 1 descriptive essay question. This brings the total number of questions to 101 in the revised pattern. The key changes in the exam pattern are as follows:

  • Timing Change: The exam will now be conducted from 2 PM to 5.10 PM, instead of the previous timing of 9.30 AM to 12.40 PM.
  • Single Slot Exam: XAT 2024 will be a single slot, single-day exam.
  • Re-Introduction of Essay Writing Test: The descriptive essay writing test, which was removed in 2019, is now included in XAT 2024.
  • MCQ and Descriptive Questions: The question paper will have four sections with MCQs and one section with the Essay Writing Test.
  • GK Section not Counted for Percentile Calculation: The General Knowledge (GK) section with 25 questions will not be counted for percentile calculation.
  • Additional Time for Visually Impaired Candidates: Visually impaired candidates with scribes are given an extra 25 minutes to solve Part 1 of the exam.
  • Marking Scheme: Each correct answer will be awarded +1 mark, while there will be a penalty of -0.25 mark for each wrong answer in the MCQ sections. There is no negative marking for the General Knowledge and Essay writing section in Part 2 of the question paper.
  • Countdown Timer: A countdown timer at the top right-hand side of the screen will display the remaining time and the time available for each part of the question paper.
  • Transition to Part 2: After 165 minutes, Part 1 will be locked, and candidates will move to Part 2, which includes the General Knowledge & Essay section.
  • No Early Exit: Candidates are not allowed to leave the test lab before completing the entire test.
  • PwD Candidate Time Flexibility: PwD candidates can submit their answers anytime between 165 and 220 minutes for Part 1 and between 15 to 20 minutes for Part 2. This allows them to leave the lab between 190 and 240 minutes, depending on their test completion time.
  • Introduction of NAT Questions: XLRI has introduced a new type of question in called Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. Candidates must use a virtual keypad on the computer screen to enter numerical answers.
  • Penalty for Unattempted Questions: If candidates leave more than 8 questions unattempted, there will be a penalty of 0.10 marks per unattempted

XAT Registration Process, Registration Fees, and Required Documents

XAT Registration  was released on July 15, 2023 and the conducting authorities will make the application form available online on the official website. In order to apply for XAT 2024, aspirants are advised to visit the official website i.e. www.xatonline.in and register themselves for further procedure of application.

Candidates applying for the exam must ensure that they fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria before applying for the examination. It is important to possess a bachelor's degree while applying for the examination.

While filling the application form the candidates must ensure that they process the payment of INR 2100 (without late fee) or INR 2100 (with late fee) depending on the date of registration as the Exam Fee or Registration Fee. The payment must be processed through online payment modes only.

XAT Eligibility

One of the most important things that students applying for the exam must keep in mind is XAT 2024 Eligibility Criteria. The eligibility criteria for the exam is generally defined by the examination conducting authority i.e. Xavier School of Management (XLRI) and students must ensure that they fulfill the requirements of this set of requirements formed by XLRI.

  • The only requirement for exam eligibility is a passing grade in your bachelor's degree.
  • To register and apply for the exam, the eligibility does not require a minimum percentage of marks in graduation, whereas other exams require a minimum percentage of marks in bachelor's degree.
  • Students in their final year of study may also apply.
  • A minimum of 15 years of academic study is required to obtain a bachelor's degree as it means you must have completed or be completing at least three years of graduate school.

XAT Admit Card

The admit card date for any entrance examination is released after the successful completion of registration procedure. It has been informed that XAT Admit Card releases in December on the official website of XAT. It is one of the essential documents that each student must carry while appearing for the examination.The only requirement for exam eligibility is a passing grade in your bachelor's degree.

  • Visit the official website.
  • Log in using your  login ID and password, which you generated during registration.
  • Click on the "Download Admit Card" link.
  • Your Admit Card will be downloaded and displayed on the screen.
  • Take a printout of the admit card and save it for future reference.

XAT Exam Pattern

As per XAT 2024 Exam Pattern , the question paper is divided into two parts i.e. Part 1 and Part 2 depending on the type of questions, one is objective type and the other one is subjective type. The examination pattern can also be divided into moderate and difficult depending upon the difficulty level of the examination.

  • The question paper is divided in 2 parts namely Part 1 and Part 2 contributing to a total of 101 questions. The two papers need to be attempted in a single slot of the exam in the given time period of 3 hours.
  • The question paper consists of 101 questions and it is a Computer Based Test (CBT). The question paper needs to be completed in 190 minutes i.e. 3 hours and 10 minutes wherein there is no sectional time limit to attempt these questions.

XAT Syllabus

XAT Syllabus 2024 is generally divided into 4 sections namely Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension, Decision Making, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Awareness. Except the last one, General Awareness, the other three sections are determined for percentile calculation in XAT Result and XLRI Shortlisting Criteria. Marks obtained by candidates in General Awareness are not considered for percentile calculation but are later taken into account for the Personal Interview round. 

Like other MBA Exams, the conducting authorities of XAT 2024 haven't formed a definitive syllabus for the examination due to which the preparation of the exam becomes difficult. It would be advised to candidates appearing for the exam to go section by section and this would help them understand even the minutest idea of how the question paper is made and what type of questions are usually asked in the exam.

Preparation for XAT 2024  should ideally take six to nine months. As one of the most difficult MBA entrance exams among its peers, the XAT requires a lot of time and efforts. It consists of four sections: Decision Making, Verbal Ability and Reasoning, Quantitative Skills and Data Interpretation, and General Knowledge.

While preparing for the exam, it is important to give equal attention to all four sections as section cutoff plays an important role in the selection of XLRI, Jamshedpur. XLRI Jamshedpur Selection Process through XAT 2024

Admission to XLRI Jamshedpur through XAT Score includes three stages:

  • Shortlisting of Candidates
  • Group Discussion and Personal Interview
  • Final Selection

Step 1 – Shortlisting of Candidates

Candidates are shortlisted for group discussion and personal interview rounds conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur based on their performance in XAR 2024 Score.

Step- 2 – Group Discussion and Personal Interview

XLRI Jamshedpur will announce its Group Discussion and Personal Interview round schedule soon after XAT 2024 Result is declared. It will be held for qualified candidates of the exam. The admission process will take place in various cities and the candidates will have to confirm their interview city online by visiting the official website of XLRI Jamshedpur within the given time limit.

Step 3 – Final Selection

Candidates will be evaluated based on their score, their performance in Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds, and several other parameters for making the final merit list. Shortlisted candidates will be called for completing the other admission formalities.

XAT Question Paper Pattern and Analysis:

The exam featured the following section-wise analysis, providing insights into the question paper's structure and the difficulty level of each question type. Additionally, a summary of the XAT exam paper analysis from the past six years is included.

Verbal and Logical Ability:

  • The Verbal and Logical Ability section comprised 15 questions on Reading Comprehension, with six passages.
  • Three passages had three questions each, while the other three passages had two questions each.
  • There was a customary poem with two questions.
  • Poem and para jumble questions were moderately difficult, while grammar questions were relatively easy.

Decision Making and Analytical Reasoning:

  • The difficulty level of the Decision Making section in XAT 2023 was moderate.
  • There were no singlets in this section of the XAT exam.
  • The section included seven situations, each with three questions.
  • Four passages were related to Business Decisions, and three passages were about Ethical Dilemmas.

Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation:

  • The Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation section consisted of 16 questions from QA and 12 questions from DI.
  • QA questions were predominantly focused on Arithmetic, Algebra, and Geometry topics.
  • The DI part of this section presented four sets of questions.
  • Overall, this section was moderately difficult.

General Knowledge:

  • The General Knowledge section's overall difficulty level was moderate.
  • This section had 25 questions covering Current GK (Business economy, personalities, and awards) and static GK (Economy, Geography, Science, and Technology).

How much time is required to prepare for XAT Exam?

The ideal time required to prepare for XAT Exam is from six to nine months. Candidates appearing the exam will be advised to make their own plan and strategy to prepare for the examination. Doing this, they will be able to figure out their strengths and weaknesses.

Will there be any sectional time limit in XAT 2024?

Yes, there is sectional time limit for each section to be attempted in XAT Exam. Part 1 of the question paper needs to be completed in 165 minutes while the second part of the paper has 25 minutes to complete it.

Yes, the candidates will be able to use an on-screen calculator. Candidates will also be provided with rough sheets for calculations.

Does any IIM accept XAT Score? Can I get admission to any IIM with my XAT Score?

None of the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) accept XAT Score but there are other MBA Institutes that rank amongst the top Business Schools in the country that provide admission based on students’ XAT Score. These Management Institutes include XLRI Jamshedpur, TAPMI, XIMB, MICA, FORE Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad, KJ Somaiya, etc.

What is the difference between CAT and XAT Exam?

The main difference between CAT and XAT Exam lies in their examination pattern and difficulty level of these questions. CAT Exam has three sections namely VARC, DILR, and Quantitative Aptitude and is of higher difficulty level. On the other hand, XAT Exam has five sections namely Decision Making, Verbal, Quantitative and DI, General Knowledge, and Essay Writing. The difficulty level is lower than that of CAT Exam.
