What is UGC NET ?

National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of University Grant Commission (UGC). Earlier, the examination was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The NET examination is conducted twice a year for the selection of either Assistant Professor in the Indian Universities and Colleges or both Assistant Professor as well as Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).

All the candidates who qualify NET are not considered for Research Fellowships granted by the University Grant Commission. The candidates aspiring to seek fellowship must specify it in the application form that whether they are applying for the fellowship or not. The fellowship is awarded to the candidates persuading Research work in the respective disciplines.

The examination pattern for UGC-NET until the academic year 2017 comprised of three individual papers conducted on the same day. Paper 1 used to be common for all the candidates whereas Paper 2 and Paper 3 were based on the subject selected by the applicant during registration. However, from the Academic year 2018, UGC-NET examination pattern has been changed. From now onwards, the candidates will be provided with two papers only. Paper 1 will be common for all the candidates whereas Paper 2 will be according to the subject selected by candidates.

To apply for the examination candidate must fulfill the basic UGC NET Eligibility Criteria to apply for the examination. Candidate must have a postgraduate degree in the relevant subject with an aggregate of 55%. Once the candidate meets the requirement of the examination, he or she can step forward to complete the UGC NET Application Procedure, which is the first step towards the UGC NET Selection Procedure. It is important to note that candidates who successfully completed the application procedure will only be able to get the UGC NET Admit Card, which is mandatory for the examination.

UGC NET 2020 Eligibility

The candidates aspiring to appear for NET must possess a minimum of 55% marks in Master's degree from a college or university recognized by UGC. The candidates of the reserved category would be provided a relaxation of 5% for the same.

The candidates in the final year of their Master's degree can also apply for UGC-NET. Those candidates would be provided provisional admission and will be considered for JRF and Assistant Professor after clearing their Master's degree with a minimum of 55% marks.

UGC NET 2020 Application Procedure

To fill the online registration form of UGC NET 2019, the candidate must pursue the following steps:

Step 1- Filling the online application form

  • The online application form for UGC NET 2019 is available on the official website of NTA i.e.
  • The candidates would be required to provide their personal information such as name, father's name, mother's name, e-mail ID, date of birth etc.
  • After submitting this page another page will appear where the candidate should provide their education information which includes class 10th and 12th marks followed by graduation and post-graduation details also.

Application Fees

The application fees for the candidates of General category is Rs. 1000/- whereas the same for candidates of OBC Category is Rs. 500/-. The application fees for the candidates of SC/ ST and PWD category is Rs. 250/-. The candidates can pay their application fees through debit card, credit card, and bank challan. The fees paid through bank challan must be made from any branch of Syndicate Bank/ Canara Bank/ ICICI Bank. It is important to successfully pay the application fee to complete UGC NET Application Procedure.

UGC NET 2020 Admit Card

UGC NET Admit card for the examination scheduled to be conducted on December 2018 will be released from November 19 by NTA (National Testing Agencies). Aspirants who have already registered for the said examination can visit the official website to get their admit card downloaded. Admit card is one of the most important documents for any examination and in absence of the same candidate will not be entertained in the examination hall. Admit card carry details of the examination center, the timing of the examination and all other relevant details.

As per the changes made in the conducting body of the examination from the year 2018 onwards, NTA will be conducting UGC NET and other exams like JEE MAIN and CBSE will not be associated with these exams anymore. The exams will be conducted on the computer-based online pattern and it is mandatory to bring admit card along.

UGC NET 2020 Preparation Tips

UGC NET being such an important exam and taken by so many students make it really tough for the candidates to score well and most of the candidate struggle with the preparation strategy for it. Candidates should know all the important details related to UGC NET like Important dates, exam pattern and syllabus to prepare in the right direction. UGC NET 2020 Exam Pattern

The UGC-NET examination will comprise two papers i.e. Paper1 and Paper 2.

  • Paper 1 will carry 100 marks and will include 50 questions. All questions will be mandatory and the time duration for Paper 1 will be 1 hour. This paper will be common for all the candidates and will carry questions about general nature, teaching and research aptitude, communication, mathematics etc. The candidate will be awarded an additional 2 marks for each correct answer and there will be no negative marking in this examination.   
  • Paper 2 will comprise of 100 questions and the time duration of this paper will 2 hours. This paper will include questions from the discipline selected by the candidate during registration. The candidate will be awarded an additional 2 marks for each correct answer and there will be no negative marking in this examination.

  • Click the ‘Result' link flashing on the homepage of the website
  • Provide your Application Number, Roll Num, er and Date of Birth
  • Click on ‘Login'
  • CBSE NET 2019 Result will appear on the screen

UGC NET 2020 Selection Procedure
