What is SSC ?

Staff Selection Commission is a Government Organization that recruits staff for numerous posts across the Ministries and Departments under the Indian Government and in Subordinate office. The Commission is associated with the Department of Personnel and Training consisting of a Chairman, two members and Secretary cum Controller of the Examinations.

Staff Selection Commission is headquartered in Delhi with regional offices at Allahabad, Mumbai, Guwahati, Kolkata, Bangalore, and Chennai with two sub-regional offices at Raipur and Chandigarh.

Staff Selection Commission convenes Competitive Exams for recruitment into Technical and Non-Technical posts in the Indian Government and Subordinate offices except wherein recruitment is made through the Railway Recruitment Boards. The Staff Selection Commission conducts exam for many posts every year wherein candidates are selected through an examination after which an interview is held.

The Estimates Committee of the Parliament had suggested setup of a Service Selection Commission in its 47th Report to conduct exams to recruit in the lower categories of posts. In November 1975, Subordinate Services Commission was formed by the Government of India. This was later renamed to Staff Selection Commission. The New Constitution and functions of Staff Selection Commission had come into effect from June 1999.

Usually, every year, the Staff Selection Commission releases the recruitment calendar. It is uploaded on the SSC official website through which candidates can track dates and other associated details with it. The SSC Calendar prescribes deadlines for the application process of all the exams, exceeding which the students would not be able to appear for the respective exam.

Combined Graduate Level Examination:

The Tier-1 exam was conducted between August 5 and August 24, 2017. The entrance exam would be a Computer Based Test for which a candidate is eligible only if he completes his graduation.The Tier 2 exam would be held on November 10th and 11th, 2017. The SSC CGL is usually held in 4 stages wherein the first two are online while the subsequent two are offline. The purpose of holding this exam is to fill vacancies across Grade B and Grade C Posts.The average age limit for the exam being between 18-31 years, the candidate is required to be of Indian Origin.

The SSC CGL Application Form was available since June 16, 2017, in online mode. The Application fee for the same can be paid both in an online and offline mode. The mode of registering for the Application Procedure requires a candidate to log in to the official website and provide his personal details. He would also submit his passport photograph after which the candidate would be supplied with a Registration ID. The exam paper carries a total of 200 marks.
