The National Testing Agency (NTA) recently has released a notification, highlighting that the Aadhaar number, issued by The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) which is a 12 digit identification numbers it is not mandatory for the registration for JEE Main 2019 examination.
In the notification released from NTA has come after the organization got a few inquiries about is it necessary to mention aadhaar number in the registration form of UGC-NET to be conducted in December 2018.
Giving a clarification on the same the authority published a notification and stated that "it is hereby clarified that while filling in online application form and as per the 'Replica of Application Form' given in Annexure VIII (page 39-40) (UGC-NET Bulletin December 2018) in the drop down box regarding 'Identification Type' and has also given on page 11, the Aadhaar number is only one of the types of identification and is not mandatory".
NTA, an agency established under the Department of Higher Education by Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), Government of India, has already started the registration process for both JEE Main and UGC NET recently, and the window for registration process will close on September 30, 2018. The JEE Main 2019 is scheduled to be conducted twice a year, and 1st part of which will be held from January 6 to January 20, 2019, followed by next part in the month of April.
An official on behalf of The National Testing Agency further added that "the note on page 11 of UGC-NET Bulletin December 2018 clearly provides that the candidates can also enter passport number, ration card number, bank account number or any other valid government identity number."
NTA, however, has also mentioned that providing a government approved Identity number is mandatory while filling the online application form for both UGC-NET 2018 and JEE-Main 2019, which is being filled in currently. Candidate can use any accepted government identity number as mentioned in the application segment.
