JEE Main 2020 Application Procedure

JEE Main 2020 (April Session) - The National Testing Agency (NTA), the conducting body of JEE Main Exam, restarted the application procedure of the exam on 14th May 2020 which and the application window remained open till 24th May 2020. Students who, for some reasons, could not register themselves for the exam must have applied during the given time period. It is widely known that various entrance examinations were postponed due to the outbreak of pandemic COVID-19. This step has been taken specially for the candidates who lost their opportunity to study abroad due to this pandemic. As per a senior official from the Ministry of Humane Resource Development (MHRD), right after the three days of reopening the application portal, there were more than 15,000 candidates who registered themselves for the examination. Out of these 15,000 students, 11,357 even process the payment of JEE Main Application Fee.

Candidates who appeared in the exam conducted in January 2020 were allowed to directly log in using their previously generated Application Number and Password. Candidates who didn't appear in January Session would be required to register themselves by visiting the official website of JEE Main i.e.

  • Candidates who have passed 12th class or equivalent from a recognized board can apply

  • The correction window reopened on 25th May 2020 and remained open till 31st May 2020.

JEE Main 2020

The basic eligibility criterion that candidates must satisfy is qualifying 12th class with PCM from a recognized board in the academic year 2018 and 2019. Candidates appearing in 12th class in 2020 can also apply for the exam irrespective of their age. Applying for the examination consists of various steps that must be completed by candidates in the right order. While filling the application form of JEE Main, candidates must also upload the scanned copy of their passport sized photograph and signature as per the specification defined by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

  • As per the latest notification, BCECEB has decided not to conduct any separate examination form engineering admission. It also added that admission to engineering programs offered by 38 government colleges and 1 private college of Bihar. The count of total number of seats reaches up to 10,000 and the admission will take place based on marks obtained by candidates in JEE Main.

As per the latest information, there are some few changes introduced by the national testing agency. Candidates are required to follow a set of simple instructions while filling the application form. These steps include:

  1. Registration
  2. Filling in applicant's details
  3. Uploading passport sized photograph and signature
  4. Payment of application fee (online mode)

JEE Main 2020

While filling in the personal, academic, and contact details during the procedure of registration, candidates must make sure that the details filled in by them are correct. Besides, candidates must process the payment of JEE Main application fee through online mode only such as net banking/credit card/debit card/UPI/Paytm.

After the registration process is completed, a confirmation page showing all the details filled in by a candidate would show up that can later be saved by candidate for future reference.

Note* Candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria defined by NTA would be allowed to fill JEE Main 2020 Application Form.

Check if you are eligible for JEE Main 2020 or not:

There are four parameters based on which the eligibility or taking JEE Main exam is defined and it is imperative for candidates to know if they are eligible to take JEE Main 2020 examination or not. Candidates can check these requirements before filling out the application form. JEE Main Eligibility would remain the same for exam conducted in both the sessions i.e. JEE Main 2020 January and JEE Main 2020 April.

Following are the requirements one must follow to take JEE Main 2020:

Educational qualification

  • B. Planning – Candidates must score 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in aggregate in 12th class or qualifying examination.
  • B. E/B. Tech – Candidates must pass 12th class with Physics and Mathematics as main subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biology.
  • B. Arch – Candidates must pass qualifying examination with Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics as main subjects.

Number of attempts

  • Candidates can take the exam for 3 years consecutively.
  • Candidates can appear in both the sessions when the exam is conducted twice a year.
  • Sitting through the exam in the same year would be taken as one attempt.

Age limit

  • There is no such age limit defined by NTA for taking JEE Main Exam.
  • Candidates who completed their 12th class in 2018, 2019, and appearing in 2020 exams would be eligible to take JEE Main irrespective of their ages.

Year of appearing

  • Candidates who completed their 12th class in 2018, 2019, and appearing in 2020 exams would be eligible to take JEE Main.
  • Candidates who completed their school in 2017 and would be completing in 2021 are not considered eligible.

JEE Main 2020 Registration – Required Documents

While filling the application form, candidates would come across a few options which require some of the documents to complete the application procedure. Following are the documents one must keep ready before starting with the registration procedure:

  • Class 10th certificate
  • Class 12th marksheet
  • Scanned copy of passport sized photograph
  • Scanned copy of signature
  • Caste certificate of SC or ST (if required)
  • Domicile certificate
  • Passport

The requirement of documents is different for candidates belonging to outside India. The documents required by foreign candidates are given below:

  • Birth Certificate
  • 12th class marksheet with at least 75% marks in aggregate
  • A valid ID proof
  • Citizen certificate or Passport of parents

Important Instructions:

  • Candidates' photograph should be uploaded only in JPEG format.
  • The signature image uploaded by candidates should be of JPEG format.
  • Aadhar no./passport no./ration card no./bank account no. or any valid government id no. would be considered a valid id proof.

JEE Main 2020 – Application Process

A step by step guide has been mentioned below to understand the procedure of registration and help students get through this application process successfully. The registration process is completed in 4 steps mentioned below:

JEE Main 2020 – Registration Procedure

  • Candidates must visit the official website of JEE Main/NTA.
  • Click on the tab “Apply for JEE Main 2020”
  • Click on “Fresh Candidates Registration” tab on the redirected tab if you are applying for JEE main for the first time.
  • Click on the checkbox of “Proceed to Apply”

Candidates would be redirected to a page where they can fill the registration form available online. Candidates must register themselves for online application form. Right after the registration procedure completes, candidates would receive and application/registration number and password on their registered email id and mobile no. The application number and password shared with candidates would later come in handy for other steps of application.

The registration form requires the following details that candidates must enter correctly:

  • Candidate's name
  • Mother's name
  • Father's name
  • Gender
  • Date of Birth

Candidates must provide their correct contact details such as email and mobile number they would be intimated on for further communication. These contact details include Address, City, Email Address, Pin Code, Mobile Number, etc.

After these details are filled, candidates must choose a password and a security question and confirm them at the end of the registration procedure.

JEE Main 2020 – Application Form

Post completion of registration procedure, candidates would be redirected to fill the application form for JEE Main 2020. Candidates have to log in by entering the application number and password sent to them on their email registered during registration. Candidates must fill the below mentioned details correctly.

JEE Main 2020

When these details are correctly filled by candidates, they must click on the checkbox of Declaration and proceed further to complete other steps of application form. And after reviewing the details filled in by them, submit the details by clicking on “Final Submit” tab.

Post successful completion of filling out the application form and verification of contact details, candidates will be allowed to upload the required documents. Click on “Upload Scanned Images” to upload the documents.

Note* Application forms with images that do not follow the instructions and format given above will be rejected. Candidates are also advised to keep more copies of uploaded photograph for future use such as seat allotment and admission.

JEE Main 2020 – Registration Fee

The next step after uploading the documents is processing the payment of application fee. JEE Main 2020 Registration Fee can be paid through Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking, UPI/PayTm, or E-challan. The application fee varies for each category of students.

Note* While processing the application fee, candidates would also have to process the pay service charges and GST with each transaction.

JEE Main 2020 – Medium of Question Paper

The candidates are allowed to choose the medium of question paper as per their convenience. There are three options namely English, Hindi, and Gujarati as medium of the question paper. Candidates with their exam centers at Gujarat, Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli would be able to choose medium as Gujarati.

JEE Main 2020 Eligibility

The Eligibility Criteria of JEE Main examination has been declared by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The candidates aspiring to appear for JEE Main examination must fulfill the determined Eligibility Criteria to apply for the examination. The JEE Main eligibility criteria include the following factors - Qualification, Age limit, Attempt number, year of appearing and other relevant details.

It must be noted that the JEE Main Eligibility Criteria determines whether the candidate can appear for the examination or not. It doesn't deal with eligibility for admissions in NITs, IIITs, SFTIs and CFTIs. Earlier the examination was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) but from the current year, the examination will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). From the year 2019, the examination will be conducted twice a year i.e. in the month of January and April.

Age Limit

  • There is no maximum age limit to appear for JEE Main examination.
  • The candidate must have passed Class XII or an equivalent examination from a recognized Board in the year 2017 or 2018.
  • The candidate appearing for Class XII or an equivalent examination in the current year can also appear for JEE Main examination.

JEE Main 2020 Admit Card

The JEE Main Admit Card will be released on March 18, 2019. Candidates who register would alone be able to log in and download JEE Main Admit Card. In order to access the Admit Card, the candidates would be required to submit their application number, personal details like pin and date of birth. The Admit Card is an important document that the candidates would be required to keep it safe and produce in the examination venue.

The JEE Main Admit Card will have details of the candidate such as their name, timings of the exam, exam center information, application number and other related details. The candidates will be required to bring in JEE Main Admit Cards with their Identity Proof on the examination day.

The National Testing Agency will be conducting JEE Main examination twice a year. According to the notification released by the NTAPaper 1 will be conducted in Computer-based mode whereas Paper 2 will be Computer-based for Mathematics and Aptitude test and Paper-pen-based for Drawing testJEE Main Paper 1 & Paper 2 are scheduled to be conducted from April 6 to April 202019JEE Main January attempt was conducted from January 8 to 12, 2019.
