The JEE Main counselling process 2025 is currently ongoing via JoSAA, JAC Delhi, JAC Chandigarh, and CSAB. The JoSAA counselling final seat allotment for NITs + IIITs will conclude on 28th July 2025, while the JAC Delhi has concluded on July 11, 2025. JoSAA counselling will end on 21st July 2025 for all IITs with its 6th round.
The JAC Chandigarh counselling is expected to close on 14th August 2025, and the physical reporting to college shall be done by 19th August. Purpose of the different JEE Main counselling procedures
The 4 counselling kinds given above hold a different meaning, and a brief of these counselling purposes is given below.
- JAC Delhi & Chandigarh: The Joint Admission Counselling (JAC) is conducted to streamline the admission process into premier engineering and architecture colleges in Delhi and Chandigarh that accept JEE Main scores. The counselling is jointly conducted for multiple institutes to ensure a common platform for choice filling, seat allocation, and admission.
- JoSAA: The Joint seat allocation authority (JoSAA) would conductcounselingsession forIITs, ISMs, NITs, and other government-funded institutes.
- CSAB: The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB)conducts separate counseling forSFTIs and NEUT.
JoSAA Eligibility Criteria → is there any eligibility criteria for JEE Main counselling?

JEE Main counselling process -> A step-by-step guide
The JEE Main selection process is usually a 2-stage process by CBSE.JEE Main performance (60%) and Class-12 (40%)would be taken into account. Both of the scores would be converted into a percentile. About 7 rounds of JEE Main Counselling would be conducted. The JEE Main Counseling procedure comprises the following steps.

Online Registration
The first step is the online registration for counselling that began on 3rd June 2025, and the last date to register for JoSAA counselling was 12th June 2025. To register, the following steps are to be followed.
- Visit the official website.
- Enter the JEE Main Roll number and password.
- The Login button can be clicked.
- Once the instructions are read, I Agree button would be needed to be clicked.
- Registration Form for JoSAA would open.
- All the details would be filled.
- Registration would be confirmed.
Online choice selection
The next step after registration is the online choice filling. Here, candidates are required to fill out their preferred choices of colleges and colleges. The following steps must be taken in this regard.
- Candidates would have to select a Choice Available option.
- The Institute type, name, and Academic Program would be input.
- The Choice filling option can be selected.
- Make a choice of Colleges and Courses.
- The filled choices can be arranged in the decreasing order of preference.
- Option for Choice Rearrange can be selected.
- College according to preferences can be arranged.
- Once that is done, the save button can be clicked.
- If the candidate would want to make a deletion of the choices they fill, Multiple delete option should be selected.
- Once choices are locked, they cannot change.
- Choices should be made carefully, as once done they would not change.
- Choice locking would be made after every round of counseling.
- Candidates would be able to mark upgraded choices in successive rounds for choice filling and locking.
Allotment of Seats
After the choice filling option, the next step is allotment of seats. The following points must be remembered w.r.t to JoSAA seat allotment.
- Allotment of seats would be on the basis of the reservation norms, choices filled and the vacancies.
- Candidates would be getting an Email/SMS regarding the seat allotment after a few days once the choice lock is made.
- The seat allotment letter can be downloaded.
Payment of Fees and Acceptance
The next step in the JEE Main counselling process is the payment of fees and seat acceptance. Here, the candidates will pay the final fees and accept their allotted seats.
- The Acceptance Fees have to be paid in order to confirm the allotment of the seats.
- Candidates would have to deposit fees via Net Banking/e challan.
- The documents can be verified at any reporting center for seat acceptance provisionally.
- A provisional letter would be issued once the process is completed.
Once the seat is allotted, the candidates have an option to either accept the seat, reject the seat, or wait for another one. In any case, if candidates want to make changes across float, free and slide, they would have to report at the allotted center.
- Freeze: Candidates who accept the allotted seat and do not want to participate in other counseling rounds.
- Float: Candidates accepting the allotted seat and wanting to get admission in a better college would be selecting this option to participate in further counseling.
- Slide: Option for candidates who accept the allotted seat and looking for better seats in the allotted institution.
It must be noted that no changes would be allowed in the last round of seat allocation and the slide and float option would be given to candidates, who are not offered admission to their initial preferences.
Reporting to allocated institutions
The final step in the JEE Main JoSAA counselling is reporting to the allotted institute. Candidates must remember the following points.
- Candidates would have to report to the Allocated institutions once the fee acceptance is done.
- Candidates would be required to report at the allotted college along with original certificates and documents.
- Candidates those who have a seat allotted in NIT, IIIT, IIEST and GFTI colleges would have to report only at the reporting center of various institutions.
JEE Main counselling → Seat Withdrawal
If due to any reason, the candidate wishes to withdraw their seat, they must take the following actions and must keep in mind some important factors listed below.
- Candidates wishing to withdraw seats have to report at their reporting center prior to the sixth round of seat allocation.
- Candidates would not be considered for further rounds of counseling after the withdraw option is given.
- After Seat withdraw, the seat acceptance fee shall be refunded to candidates once INR 1000 is deducted as processing the charge.
- For seat withdraw process, candidates would have to fill their bank correspondence details and upload an image of the canceled cheque in the JPEG Format. Withdrawal Request letter can be downloaded.
- Candidates would have to input their signature and the signature of the parent in the withdrawal request center and report to the concerned reporting center.
