What is JIPMER ?

Candidates preparing for JIPMER Exam must be aware of the fact that JIPMER 2020 Exam has already been replaced by NEET 2020 and students must take NEET 2020 in order to be eligible for admission to medical institutions currently operating across the country. Candidates willing to take admission to the Undergraduate programs offered by Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry must appear in and qualify NEET Examination. Previously, the institute used to conduct JIPMER Exam.

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry is one of the leading medical institutes in India and is under the Government of India since the year 1956. The institute is spread over a sprawling 195-acre campus in Pondicherry. JIPMER Admission is conducted by the institute itself for which it conducts JIPMER Entrance Examination every year.

As per the record, there were almost 2 lakh students who appeared in the exam conducted last year. The examination was held at 290 centers across the country and keeping the records of the previous year, it can be assumed that the total number of seats available under JIPMER 2020 would be 200 wherein 150 seats would be in JIPMER Puducherry and 50 seats in JIPMER Karaikal.

JIPMER has released the tentative schedule of the examination to be conducted in the year 2020 and it is expected that the application procedure will begin from 6th March 2020. The exam is expected to be conducted on 2nd June 2020 and it will be conducted in two shifts, i.e. morning and afternoon shift. JIPMER and AIIMS are the only two institutes that conduct their own entrance examinations in order to shortlist candidates for admission to their medical degree programs.

JIPMER Application Form will be released in an online mode. Candidates must fill the JIPMER online application carefully, as no changes would be allowed once the form is submitted. The JIPMER Application Correspondence printout should be kept safely for future reference.

The JIPMER Application Fee is INR 1000 (INR 800 for SC/ST Category candidates). The fee can be paid only in an online mode (Credit/Debit/Net banking)OPH Candidates will be exempted from paying the JIPMER Application Fee.

JIPMER 2020 Application Procedure

The application procedure of JIPMER needs to be completed online on the official website of JIPMER and as per the latest notification, the application form for the exam can be completed on or before 12th April 2020 (Tentative). The procedure of filling of the application form needs to be completed in two phases.

In the first phase, candidates are required to submit their personal details and generate a User ID and Password. Candidates must successfully register themselves. Candidates, while registering, must ensure that the details such as Personal and Professional must be entered correctly as any incorrect detail may lead to cancelation of candidature.

JIPMER Eligibility Criteria are as detailed below:

  • Candidates must be an Indian citizen.
  • NRI and OCI candidates can also apply.
  • Candidates should have completed 17 years in the year 2018.
  • There is no age relaxation for reserved categories in terms of age limit.
  • Candidates would be required to qualify 10+2 examination from a recognized board.

The candidates should pass the above examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology subjects. Candidates must secure at least 50% marks in the General category, 40% marks (OBC, SC, ST, OPH) and 45% marks in (GEN OPH) in PCB subjects. 

JIPMER Examination details are given as below:

  • The JIPMER Examination would be held in an online mode.
  • The JIPMER Question Paper would be in English and Hindi language.
  • The question paper would be an objective type.
  • 200 questions would be asked in the examination.
  • For every correct answer, one mark shall be allotted to the candidates.
  • There would be no negative marking.
  • Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Logic and English contain a total of 200 questions.

Candidates would be able to download their JIPMER Admit Card in the online mode from the official website. The JIPMER Admit Card shall be available from 3rd week of May. No admit card shall be sent through offline mode or by post. The JIPMER Admit Card would contain details such as the name of the candidate, date of birth, exam venue, date and time of exam and the photograph.

The JIPMER Result would be declared in the third week of June. Candidates would be able to view their JIPMER MBBS Result in an online mode. On the basis of the percentile and marks secured by a candidate, the JIPMER Merit List shall be prepared.

The JIPMER Counseling is usually conducted in an offline mode. JIPMER Counselling shall begin from the last week of June. The JIPMER Counselling would be conducted in 4 rounds. Candidates would be required to go through Biometric fingerprint and image verification prior to appearing for JIPMER Counselling. Candidate's documents would be verified at the time of counseling. The seat shall be allotted to the candidates on the basis of the merit list declared.

JIPMER and AIIMS are the standalone exams that are being held apart from NEET which is the sole medical entrance examination. JIPMER 2020 Eligibility

JIPMER Puducherry, the exam leading expert, sets the qualification criteria of JIPMER MBBSJIPMER MBBS qualification criteria is an essential set of criteria which must be satisfied by candidates so as to end up plainly qualified for JIPMER MBBS exam. JIPMER MBBS 2019 will be conducted on June 2, 2019.

JIPMER 2020 Application Procedure

Candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria need to apply online at www.jipmer.edu. The application form is required to be submitted online. The application form would be available to submit May 2019. Candidates would fill the application form through JIPMER official website. Once the application form is submitted, no changes would be entertained.

After filling the form, candidates would be required to pay an application fee of INR 1200 for candidates belonging to General/OBC/P -UR/P-OBC Category, and INR 1000 for reserved category candidates. Fee for NRI/OCI candidates would be INR 2500.

Candidates can pay fees only in the online mode.

JIPMER is one of the premier medical institutes in India. The entrance exam is organized to determine admission into 200 seats for the MBBS course in JIPMER institute. You may refer the application procedure in detail to apply before the application deadline.

JIPMER Puducherry would be releasing the application forms for JIPMER MBBS in an online mode on March 6, 2019. The Last date to fill the same would be JIPMER MBBS Application Form would be April 12, 2019. JIPMER MBBS Application Form can be submitted in an online mode. There would be no offline mode of submitting the JIPMER MBBS Application Form as that is not permitted. 

The link to apply for JIPMER MBBS entrance would be available as soon as JIPMER releases the JIPMER Application Form. Candidates can go through the five-step procedure mentioned for filling the JIPMER MBBS Application Form. The JIPMER Application Fee differs across various categories. Candidates should note that an incomplete JIPMER MBBS Application would be rejected and JIPMER Puducherry would not be providing an opportunity to the candidates to correct the JIPMER Application.

Fees Payment

JIPMER Application Form can be submitted on the JIPMER official website. The student is required to keep official documents handy to submit the form. Before going to the form, the photograph and signature must be scanned to ensure it gets submitted in the right manner.

  • The fee for application form is INR 1200 (General), INR 1000 (SC/ST) and INR 2500 (NRI/OCI).

Select three cities in the order of preference in JIPMER Application form. The final allotted city would be as per the choices filled.

JIPMER 2020 Admit Card

JIPMER Admit Card will be released by the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) – Puducherry on the official website of JIPMER i.e. jipmer.puducherry.gov.in. The Admit Card will be available from May 21, 2019, until June 3, 2019.

JIPMER 2019 is scheduled to be conducted on June 2, 2019 from 10 AM to 12:30 PM. 

JIPMER Puducherry has released the JIPMER MBBS Admit Card in an online mode. JIPMER MBBS Admit card would be not sent in an online mode through post or other offline means. The applicants who have successfully registered for JIPMER MBBS Admit Card can download JIPMER MBBS Admit card by visiting the official website of JIPMER.

Candidates would be requiring their application number and date of birth details, in order to be able to download JIPMER MBBS Admit card. The link to download JIPMER MBBS Admit card would be made available as soon as the same is released by the JIPMER Puducherry Campus.

JIPMER MBBS Admit Card would contain details such as the name of the candidate, venue of the examination, examination date, roll number and personal details of the candidate. Candidates would be required to compulsorily carry their ID Proof along with JIPMER MBBS Admit Card.

JIPMER 2020 Preparation Tips

The candidate should cover all these subjects thoroughly. They can study from NCERT guide or they can refer to an online guide. Most of the private institutions will conduct entrance test preparation course. The candidate can also join this course and prepare for the exam. The guidebook consists of many objective type questions with answers. Moreover, this will have model question papers. They should allot the time for each subject and prepare well. The candidate should memorize important points, formulas and equations thoroughly. The candidate should practice model test every week as well they should follow their timetables properly. JIPMER 2020 Result

JIPMER MBBS result is usually published after the exam. The result of the exam is shows marks, percentile and also ranks in the merit list. Only test takers who manage to get marks that equal cutoff or more than the threshold get a position in JIPMER merit list.

Normalization is the process for ensuring students are neither in an advantageous or disadvantageous position by the difficulty of entrance exams which is conducted in 2 shifts.

The minimum marks a candidate is required to be on the merit list is 50th percentile for UR, OCI, NRI; 45th percentile UR OPH; 40th percentile for SC, ST, OBC, OPH.


The least marks that a candidate is required to score for which admission would be given is known as JIPMER MBBS cutoff. The JIPMER Cutoff may vary on a year to year basis depending on the performance of the candidates in the JIPMER Entrance examination. The JIPMER MBBS cutoff is detailed as follows:

Category Minimum Percentile

Candidates shortlisted for MBBS Admission provisionally would be published by Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research. This is the minimum marks against which the seats of the candidates are filled every year. The JIPMER Cutoff shall stand published once the JIPMER Result is published. 

For an unreserved category, the candidate should score more than 160 marks in JIPMER MBBS Examination. For an OBC Candidate, more than 153 marks should help them get admission.

There is always an increase in the level of competition, the candidates are advised that they must keep their target at least ten to fifteen marks more than the cutoff. 

JIPMER 2020 Counseling Details

JIPMER 2019: Counselling Starts from June 26

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry has released the JIPMER Counselling Schedule. JIPMER, Puducherry Campus will conduct the first round of Counselling from June 26, 2019, to June 28, 2019.

The JIPMER MBBS Counseling will be conducted from June 26 to 28, 2019 in three rounds. Candidates qualifying the JIPMER MBBS Examination would be eligible to participate in the JIPMER Counseling procedure. Candidates who participate in the initial round would not be allowed to participate in any other subsequent rounds of JIPMER MBBS. The JIPMER Counseling procedure would have to be conducted in an offline mode mandating the physical presence of the candidates.

Admission to MBBS/BDS course is based only on the merit list prepared by CBSE after the exam.

  • To appear in the merit list, the candidate must have had scored at least a 50 percentile. For candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories, this limit has been relaxed to 40 percentile.
  • If for some reason the number of candidates scoring a 50 percentile is less, the Central government in consultation with the MCI and CBSE may lower the minimum percentile required to qualify the exam.

  7. Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates should produce the required certificate as per the format in the Annexure along with last three years Income Tax returns of the parents
  8. Transfer Certificate from the Head of the Institution last studied
  9. In case of Puducherry residents, the Residence Certificate / Employer Certificate as required in the Prospectus
