JEE MAIN Online Vs Offline

By: R Chandrakala on Dec 06, 2017

JEE Mains 2018 are around the corner. The registration process has already started. Apart from what to study and how to study other major concerns for the applicants are the dilemma of choosing between online and offline exams.
Like every other thing in India, some myths surround the online examinations such as:
  • Candidates won't get a rough sheets to solve problems
  • It would be conducted only in English
  • Difference in the difficulty levels

But they are just myths; candidates get enough rough sheets and can select any language between English and Hindi. Also, the difficulty level is the same for both the formats.

JEE Main OFFLINE EXAMINATION

This is a Pen and Paper Exam where students are provided with a question paper which is in both English and Hindi. Candidates have to fill their OMR sheet to answer.

PROS
  • Familiarity with the pen and paper pattern
  • Candidates are much more familiar with this pattern, For such an important examination, familiarity with the exam is an advantage.
  • Zero technical problems
There are no technical issues such as connectivity and other things. Though CBSE takes adequate measures to avoid it.

CONS
  • Time consuming
  • Filling an OMR sheet is always time-consuming and a tiresome task, and it has to be done with a lot of care. Any minor mistake and that would cost the student their precious marks.
  • Answers cannot be corrected: Everyone does make mistakes, and in a pressure situation, they tend to happen a lot. In an OMR sheet, there is no way to change the answers.

JEE Main ONLINE EXAMINATION

The computer-based exam is assigned to a computer center. Candidates only have to click on the correct answer.

PROS
  • Answers can be changed: The best benefits of giving an online exam for JEE Mains is that a candidate can change their answer if there is any mistake.Candidates can also go back and check their answers.
  • Less time wasted: Candidates just have to click the right option, so it takes less time.
  • Extra study time: The online exams are held a few days later almost like a week's time which gives an ample amount of extra time to the applicant.
  • Mock Tests: Giving online mock tests helps a lot as it increases the understanding of the pattern and also allows to check the right progress and preparation level
CONS
  • Low Confidence Level: Candidates who don't have any idea about the online exam they might fall prey to lack or low on confidence about the online pattern.
  • Wrong Numerical: There are a lot of numerical problems almost in every section of the exam. There might be a mistake of copying a digit wrong from the screen which will result in a wrong answer.
Both the examination formats have their own merits and demerits. So it's not about the format you choose it is about your hard work.
