NEET 2019: Exam Pattern Explained, Apply before November 30

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, known as NEET will be conducted on May 5, 2019, by a newly formed examination conducting body i.e. National Testing Agency (NTA). There had been numerous queries regarding the changes in NEET Exam Pattern. As the NEET Application Process has been started on the official website, the official brochure for NEET 2019 is also available on the website at nta.ac.in/medicalexam. The candidates aspiring to appear for NEET UG 2019, must visit the official website and read the examination brochure carefully before applying for the examination.

Highlights of NEET 2019 Exam Pattern:

  • NEET will be Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) based examination and the candidates will be provided with ball pen during the examination. The NEET brochure states that candidates must not carry any pen to the examination centre.
  • NEET Question Paper will carry three sections i.e. Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The Biology section will be further divided into two sections- Zoology and Botany.
  • NEET 2019 Question Paper will carry 180 questions.
  • The total marks allotted to the question paper will be 720.
  • The candidate will be rewarded with an additional 4 marks for each correct answer and 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
  • Apart from English and Hindi, the NEET paper will also be available in regional languages including Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
  • The candidates opting for regional language will be provided with bilingual test booklets carrying questions in regional language as well as in English.

Who can Appear for NEET 2019?

The candidates who are the citizen of India, NRIs, PIOs, OCIs and Foreign Nationals can appear for NEET 2019. As NEET examination is mandatory for candidates who aspire to study medicines, the candidates are required to register themselves on the official website of NTA before November 30, 2018.

  • The candidate must have passed Class XII with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology & English as mandatory subjects.

Age Requirement

  • The candidate must be a minimum of 17 years old by December 31, 2019.
  • The candidate must not be more than 25 years of age for unreserved category. An exemption of 5 years is provided to the candidates of reserved category.  

Qualifying Marks

  • General: 50%
  • OBC/SC/ST: 40%
  • PwD: 45%

Maximum Number of Attempts

  • No limit

Nationality

  • Citizen of India, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs & Foreign Nationals

As the NEET Application Process started on November 1, 2018, there had been numerous complaints regarding the phone calls received from agents promising to fill the NEET Application Form and providing the desired examination centre.
