Things You Should Be Aware of Before Appearing in GATE 2021 Exam

GATE 2021 - The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, also known as GATE Exam, will begin from 6th February 2021. GATE 2021 Exam is scheduled to be conducted on 6th, 7th, 13th, and 14th February 2021. As per the official notification GATE 2021 is scheduled to be held from 5th February 2021 to 14th February 2021, however the other two days i.e. 5th and 12th February 2021 are reserved for miscellaneous activities. These miscellaneous activities primarily include trial mock tests by zonal officials, invigilators’ briefing, scribe selection, preparation at exam centers, etc.

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) being the conducting body of GATE 2021 Exam has also issued a set of instructions for students to follow on the day of examination.

Here are some of the frequently asked questions apropos GTE Admit Card, Dress Code that students must follow, and GATE Exam day rules.

Q1) What is a virtual calculator for GATE?

A1) Candidate are not allowed to bring their own calculator as their computer screen will have a virtual calculator available on it. They can use this virtual calculator for numerical questions. It must be noted that they will not be allowed to bring any charts, or tables to the examination hall on the exam day. Sheets for rough work will be provided at the examination center.

Q2) What is GATE 2021 dress code?

A2) The examination conducting authority i.e. IIT Bombay hasn’t specifically released any instructions regarding the dress code for GATE 2021. However, students are still advised to wear light clothes. They mustn’t wear any cap, muffler, jewelry, watch, glares, rings, bracelets, etc. They must not carry any wallet or pouch to the examination center.

Q3) What is the reporting time for GATE 2021?

A3) Candidates are advised to reach their respective examination center at least 60 minutes prior to the commencement of the examination. They will only be allowed to get to their seats at least 40 minutes before the exam starts.

Q4) What is the use of GATE admit card?

A4) Candidates must carry their GATE Admit Card at the examination center. Without it they will not be permitted to enter the examination center. GATE Admit Card consists of basic but crucial details of GATE Aspirant.

Q5) Is the GATE admit card alone enough to gain entry to the examination center?

A5) Besides GATE Admit Card, candidates are required to bring their original and valid photo ID proof for verification.

Q6) What is a valid photo ID for GATE?

A6) Indian candidates appearing in GATE 2021 Exam can bring their Aadhaar card, passport, PAN card, Voter ID, college ID, employee ID, and Driving license as valid photo id proof.

International candidates appearing in GATE 2021 Exam can bring a valid passport or government issued ID, College ID, or employee ID.

Q7) What do I do with the GATE admit card when the exam is over?

A7) Candidates must drop their admit car ad rough sheet in the drop box provided in the examination center right after the exam is complete.
