GATE 2023 will be conducted on 4, 5, 11, and 12 February 2023 by IIT Kanpur. GATE 2023 conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) will release a statement stating the relaxation given in GATE 2023 Eligibility on its official website. The basic eligibility to appear GATE 2023 Exam is to have possessed a bachelor's degree in the relevant field from a recognized university. Candidates in their final year of graduation can also apply for the exam. IIT Kanpur will even release the detailed GATE 2023 Eligibility Criteria along with the information brochure which is generally released with GATE Application Form. GATE Exam Eligibility consists of a few limitations which refrain students from taking the exam if they do not stand eligible for the same. These parameters include GATE Age Limit, Educational and Academic Qualifications, Nationality, etc. Candidates must meet all the requirements in order to stand eligible for the exam. 

GATE 2023 Eligibility

  • Candidates should hold a B.Tech./B.E. degree (4 years after 10+2 and 3 years after diploma courses).
  • Candidates who are in the final year of such programs are also eligible to apply.
  • There is GATE Age Limit to apply for GATE Exam.
  • For B. Arch. Candidates: Bachelor's degree in Architecture (5 years) or appearing in the final year of their degree.
  • For B.Sc. / B.Sc. (Research): Students should be in the 4th year or already completed the degree.
  • For Int. M.E/M. Tech (Post –B.Sc.): Students should be currently in the 2nd/3rd/4th year or already completed.
  • For Int. M.E/M. Tech or Dual Degree (after Diploma or 10+2): Students should be in the 4th/5th year of their dual degree course.
  • For M.Sc. / Int. B.S. – M.S.: Student should be in the final year or should have already completed.
  • For Professional Society Examination (equivalent to B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch.): Students should have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses.
  • Candidates need to check the GATE Eligibility Criteria before filling up the Application Form to complete the GATE Application Procedure.

GATE 2023 Eligibility

Besides, there were two new papers that were introduced to GATE 2022 Exam and these two papers were Environmental Science and Engineering (ES) and Humanities and Social Science (XH). Thus, students belonging to Arts and Humanities background were also considered eligible to take GATE 2022 Exam.

  • The candidate must have passed bachelor's degree either of 4 years after Class XII or 3 years after Diploma in Engineering/Technology.
  • The candidates studying in the final year of Graduation can also apply for the examination.
  • The passing year of the bachelor's degree must not be later than 2022.

B. Arch

  • The candidate must have passed bachelor's degree of 5 years in architecture.
  • The candidates studying in the final year of Graduation can also apply for the examination.
  • The passing year of the bachelor's degree must not be later than 2022.

B. Sc

  • The candidate must have passed bachelor's degree in Science.
  • The candidates studying in the final year of Graduation can also apply for the examination.
  • The passing year of the bachelor's degree must not be later than 2022.

M. Sc./M.A./M.C.A.

  • The candidate must have passed master's degree in any branch of science/Mathematics/statistics/computer applications from a recognized university.
  • The candidates studying in the final year of Graduation can also apply for the examination.
  • The passing year of the master's degree must not be later than 2023.

M.E./M. Tech. or Dual Degree

  • The candidate must have passed Postgraduate degree program or dual degree program in engineering/technology.
  • The candidates studying in the final year of Graduation can also apply for the examination.
  • The passing year of the bachelor's degree must not be later than 2023.

Integrated M. Sc Integrated B.S./M.S.

  • The candidate must have passed M.Sc. or 5 years integrated B.S.-M.S. program.
  • The candidates studying in the final year of Graduation can also apply for the examination.
  • The passing year of the bachelor's degree must not be later than 2023.

Detailed Description of GATE 2023 Eligibility

There are various parameters based on which GATE Exam Eligibility Criteria are defined. These parameters primarily include GATE Age Limit, Educational and Academic Qualification, Nationality, etc. Below are the most important factors that decide if a candidate stands eligible to apply for the exam or not:

GATE Age Limit and No. of Attempts

  • There is no age bar set to apply for the exam i.e. there is no maximum or minimum GATE Age Limit to appear GATE 2023 Exam.
  • Students can appear as many GATE Papers as they want if they are eligible.
  • The major criteria to be fulfilled by candidates are their nationality and academic qualifications.
  • The eligibility for admission to M. Tech in IITs vary according to the participating institutes.

GATE Eligibility for International Students

The GATE examination is also conducted for candidates from Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates for admissions in Post Graduate and Research programs offered by IITs and IISc Bangalore. Following are the mandatory requirements for foreign students:

  • The candidate must have passed bachelor's degree in Engineering. OR.
  • The candidate must have passed master's degree in a relevant Science subject.
  • The candidates studying in the final year can also apply for the examination.
  • The course duration should be at least 3 years.

GATE Eligibility for Candidates having Backlog

The GATE Exam Eligibility Criteria vary for students with bachelor's or master's degree with and without backlogs. Candidates who have arrears or failed in any papers of the qualifying degree must satisfy any one of the following:

  • The candidate must submit a copy of any one of the marks sheets of the final year.
  • The candidate must obtain a declaration from the Principal of their institute carrying signature and seal beforehand.

GATE 2023 Eligibility Documents Required

  • Applicants applying for GATE 2023 will be needed to upload certain documents to define qualification rules of GATE Exam. GATE Exam Eligibility Criteria documents or authentications must be uploaded at the time of filling GATE 2023 Application Form online. Referenced beneath are some significant point that define the type of documents candidates applying for GATE 2023 can upload:
  • Applicants who will pass the qualifying examinations in 2022 or prior to it, will be needed to present the degree declaration/temporary degree authentication/participation testament as given by the assigned specialists.
  • On the other hand if candidates complete their graduation in the academic year 2023 or after it, at that point he/she needs to present their Provisional Certificate Letter (as given by the Head of the Institute/Dean/Registrar/Head of Department) or a duplicate of imprints card for Section A of AMIE, and so forth.
  • Candidates belonging to the PwD (Persons with Disabilities) category will be needed to present a PwD certificate given by a perceived position of a recognized authority. Candidates with 40% debilitation independent of the sort of inability might be given concession in the application expenses.   • Candidates with backlogs (failed in any subject) in any of the subjects in their qualification should upload a duplicate of any of the marksheets of the last year given by the foundation where he/she was pursuing his/her degree from.   • Candidates belonging to SC/ST category should upload a legitimate document as a proof to attain a concession in the application charge. Documents or certificates given by the approved authorities may be considered for concession.
  • Dyslexic applicants will be needed to present a declaration expressing the same given by experts so as to get the administrations of a scribe.
