CMC Vellore Suspends Admissions over NEET

By: Vishal on September 06, 2017

CMC Vellore has suspended the admissions to its undergraduate and super speciality courses for the current session. The CMC Council has decided to suspend the admission process as it is unable to follow their own admission process after the Supreme Court's Order to conduct the single counselling session through NEET.

Christian Medical College Vellore

The Christian Medical College has 100 seats for MBBS student, 62 seats for super speciality courses and 192 seats for postgraduate courses.  The Institute has admitted 1 student in super speciality course and 1 student in MBBS course under Ministry of Defence Quota after the Supreme Court's order.

CMC Vellore was founded in 1900 and started its Medical Education in 1918.  Since then, The Institute has been following its own admission model which consists of an entrance test and an Interview until the NEET came into existence. The tution fee for Undergraduate students is Rs. 3000/- and for Post Graduate student, the tution fee is Rs. 400/- for an academic year.

"Dr Anna Pulimood (Principal of CMC Vellore) said - We will look for the candidate who will uphold our motto to serve the under privileged".

"Dr Anna Pulimood - We are not against NEET. We followed the NEET last year and admitted the students in last academic session, but to sustain the quality of doctors, we strictly follow our selection process that has been helping to find good Doctors who are willing to serve the poor and needy in remote parts of the country, for all these years. But we don't want to comprise on our right to select suitable candidates. Hence, we have suspended admissions to UG and super speciality courses," said Dr Anna.

A writ petition was filed by the Institute in Supreme Court challenging the Government Order in the month of April.
