Manipal University, one of the elite private university in India has entered to the
QS World University Rankings for the first time in the history of the institution. QS World University Rankings are published annually by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) which determine the University rankings on the basis of six key performance indicators. As per the ranking figures of the QS, the Manipal University positioned itself between 701-750 rank in the world and became the only private University in India among the top 750 Universities in the world. Manipal University has secured 13th position in the overall University rankings determined by the QS World University Rankings.

In an interview, the Vice Chancellor of Manipal University Dr. Vinod Bhat said “I am delighted to learn about Manipal University position in the QS World Ranking of Universities 2018. We have reached a significant milestone with this achievement. This is the result of rigorous efforts and perseverance of the faculty, staff, students, and alumni. Our focus now is to be sub-600 in the 2019 World Rankings. With world-class infrastructure, our faculty ratio, international collaboration and a strong alumni base and ever growing research capability, I am certain that we will get there.”
The scrutinization process of the QS for determining the 2018 University rankings was not nominal in approach. QS evaluation process involved examination of 75 million citations from more than 12 million papers, academics and employers' responses from around 115,000 surveys and 4,000 universities.
Talking about the progress marked in Medicine and Pharmacy sector by the Manipal University, Dr. Vinod Bhat said "We have also done well in the ranking by subject with our Pharmacy and Medical Colleges finding places in the world ranking. With this as the much-needed shot in the arm, we hope to do much better in the next couple of years. We have done well in the rankings by magazines within the country, which is an indication of the good progress we are making. I am also glad about the progress we are making in research”.
For the first time in the record of the Manipal University, the constituent colleges of the University had found its place in the QS World University Rankings by Subject earlier this year when the
Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences and
Kasturba Medical College were listed in the QS rankings. The Medical College was listed with the rank between 451-500 while the Pharmacy College was listed between the rank 251-300. In the year 2016, the Manipal University was featured at the 200th position in QS University Asia Rankings. As per the statistics, the Manipal University had secured the position among the top 350 Universities across 17 Asian Countries.

The Times Higher Education BRICS and Emerging Economies University Rankings 2017 ranked the Manipal University between the bracket 251-300.

Manipal University was ranked 18th in the University category of National Institutional Ranking Framework 2017 released by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. Manipal University was thus ranked at 3rd position among the private universities in the list of NIRF 2017.

The Week Magazine ranked the Manipal University at 1st position in 2017 and declared Manipal University as the best private University across the country for the third consecutive time.

The Outlook magazine in 2017 ranked KMC, Manipal at the 10th position in overall category & 3rd among Private Medical Institutions in India. It also ranked the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) at 12th position overall while placed MIT at 6th position among the private institutions.
