VISA INFORMATION

Documents to be submitted:

  • Proof of acceptance proof of identity, which includes a letter of acceptance from the respective Canadian University/ college
  • Proof of identity which includes a valid passport or travel document and two recent size photographs
  • Proof of financial support which includes proofs of Canadian bank accounts, student/ education loan, bank statements of the last 4 months, a bank draft in convertible currency, proof of payment of accommodation and tuition fees, a letter from the institution or person providing you with money   
  • Letter of explanation meaning a study permit with which you can work part time within Canda

After the visa office receives your application, additional documents that may be included are as follows:

Medical information: To get medical clearance, you will need to undergo a medical examination. A visa officer will send you instructions if you need a medical examination. This process, if needs to be followed will require a longer processing time  of your application (say additional 3 months).

Security information: If you are a student candidate for Canada, and want to get a family member along with you (both being over 18 years of age), both will need to provide police certificates. 

An interview, if required, can be conveniently scheduled at the application centre. Students from India, Nepal and Bhutan need to pay a Visa fee, which amounts to Rs. 5470. Besides the  visa fee, visa applicants in India, Nepal and Bhutan are required to pay a non-refundable service charge. Please note that VFS offices do not accept personal cheques.

SCHOLARSHIP

Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship Program:

Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship Program funded by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT): Graduate Students Exchanges (GSEP) are hosted by Canadian institutions for a period of five or six months and provide up to $10,000 to cover transportation, living and other related expenses during the students' stay in Canada.

Canada Asia-Pacific Awards (CAPA):

Canada Asia-Pacific Awards funded by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT): This award will support scholars in universities or research institutes in the Asia-Pacific Region to undertake short term research, including collaborative research, contributing to the understanding of bilateral and multilateral relations between Canada and the countries of the Asia-Pacific Region.

Professional Development Awards (PDA) by International Development Research Centre (IDRC):

Professional Development Awards (PDA) are granted to Canadians, Permanent Residents of Canada and citizens of developing countries with  a Master's, PhD or Post-Doctoral and some career experience.

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship:

It is funded by Government of CanadaThe Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS) program attracts and retains world-class doctoral students and helps establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning. The scholarship provides $50,000 per year for three years and is open to both Canadian and international PhD students studying at Canadian universities.
