Medical colleges of India are ranked by NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) just like the colleges of Engineering and MBA. Since its formation in the year 2015, NIRF releases a list of top colleges in India under different categories, for example, Top Universities of India, Top MBA Colleges in India and Top Engineering Colleges in India. Similarly in the current year also NIRF by evaluating all the registered medical colleges under different parameters releases list of top Medical Colleges in India 2018.
NIRF follow certain guideline and parameters to score the colleges in various categories, the final scores are added to rank the colleges from highest score to lower scorer colleges. The colleges are evaluated on basis of the following parameters:
NIRF has released the list of top medical colleges of India for the year 2018 and no doubt All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Delhi topped the list again with the highest margin. In this article, we will further focus on the NIRF rankings, overall score and parameters of the ranking of the colleges which made into the top 10 of the list and are most popular medical colleges of India.
AIIMS Delhi without a second thought is the number one medical in India with the highest NIRF overall score of 90.71. The college has a total number of 676 Faculty members out of which 181 are female faculty members. 90 Faculty members of AIIMS are PhD degree holder. AIIMS established in the year 1956 is a part of autonomously run medical colleges for providing higher medical education in India and declared as “Institute of national importance.” The institute is continuously being ranked on top for medical studies.

Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research is ranked 2nd in the NIRF 2018 list of top medical colleges of India with an overall score of 78.73 by leaving CMC, Vellore and Kasturba medical college back. The PGIMER Chandigarh came into existence in the year 1960 as the centre of excellence which will encourage and develop methods of teaching in medical education at postgraduate level. PGIMER Chandigarh has a total of 475 faculty members including 147 Female faculty members. The count of the faculty member having PhD degree is 51.

With an overall score of 73.61 CMC Vellore has secured the 3rd position in the list of NIRF ranking of Best medical colleges in India 2018. CMC is a research and educational institute which is registered as a non-profit organization with the tertiary care hospital. It is being ranked as number 1 in the category of the private hospital in India by many organizations and journals. CMC is also known as the first medical college in India to perform a successful open heart surgery in 1961 and kidney transplant in 1971. The institute has a total number of 829 faculties out of which 12 are PhD Degree holder and 348 female faculty members. The college also offers a good placement record and if we talk about the 6-year undergraduate programme the average salary offered is Rs 1, 55, 040.

Kasturba Medical College, Manipal is ranked 4th in the list of top 10 medical colleges of India in the NIRF ranking with an overall score of 62.03. KMC was established on June 30, 1953, and is the first medical college to provide both undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses. It also claims to have the largest Health Science Library and Anatomy Pathology museums of Asia. The institute has a total of 435 faculties, out of which 166 are female and a total of 24 faculty members have a PhD degree. Talking about the placement record, the average salary offered to postgraduate students with a 3 years programme was Rs. 10, 80, 000.

King George`s Medical University, Lucknow with an overall score of 61.73 stood 5th in the list giving KMC Manipal a tough completion. The institute was formerly known as Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University and was established long back in 1911. The institute has 428 full-time faculty members including 23 faculty members having Ph.D. degree. The ratio of female candidate is not bad either with a total of 129 faculty member who are female. The college also provide career opportunities to its students in all the programmes and it is very much clear with the placement data of last year in which the average salary commanded by the students of 6 year undergraduate programme is 12, 60,000.

Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research, Puducherry was popularly known as JIPMER Puducherry is one of the popular colleges for medical aspirants and that's the reason the institute made to top 6 in the list of top medical colleges of India. ILBS Delhi with an overall score of 57.12 has made in the list of top medical colleges of India and standing on the 8th position. Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences was established in the year 2003 by the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Aligarh Muslim University which is the pioneer in the field of education extended its excellence with the establishment of a constituent medical college with the name of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in 1962. The JNMC-AMU is in the 9th position in the list published by NIRF under the category of top 10 medical colleges of India with a total score of 56.34. The institute has a total number of 266 faculty members including 74 female faculty members and 18 faculty members with Ph.D. degree. The institute also provides job opportunities and in the last academic session, the average salary offered to the students of 3 year's postgraduate programme is 12, 50,000.
