Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay continues to be the first choice of students from across the country. 64 candidates who secured ranks in Top 100 in JEE Advanced 2019 examination have opted IIT-Bombay as their first preference and have been allotted the same. Among top 100 ranks, 33 students opted for IIT-Delhi, 2 opted for IIT-Kanpur, and only one student opted admission in IIT-Madras.

The first round of seat allotment of Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSSA) Counseling 2019 was released on June 27, 2019. Applicants were allotted seats in IITs, NITs, IIITs, and government-funded institutions on the basis of their merit and preferred choices.
Among the Top 500 rankers in the JEE Advanced 2019 examination, 147 and 142 candidates have taken admissions in IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi respectively. 53 and 52 students chose IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur while 47 and 35 students took admissions in IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee respectively. Among the top 500 rankers, 7 students chose IIT Hyderabad.

IIT Bombay is the most preferred institute among toppers in all disciplines, not just in computer science.
The total intake seats of 23 IITs is 13,583 this year, up from 11,279 in last year. Admission to IITs depends on the JEE Advanced scores, the result for which were declared on June 14, 2019. Over 1.6 lakh candidates appeared for the exam, among which 38,705 were qualified and eligible for admissions in IITs.
Result of the Second Round seat allotment will be declared on July 3, 2019.
