By: Kanishk on May 28, 2019

BITSAT 2019 CBI arrest six

The CBI has arrested six persons for allegedly manipulating an online entrance examination of BITS Pilani. The CBI has alleged that Bhaskar Choudhary, MD of Pathway Education conspired with the other accused and came up with a premium service to offer parents of students aspiring to get into the esteemed institution a service, where applicants would not have to answer the questions of the test themselves.

It is alleged that Bhaskar Choudhary with others demanded around Rs 10 lakhs from parents of a candidate for helping in BITSAT 2019 (the entrance exam of BITS ) through unfair means. The experts gave the answers to the candidates using remote desktop technology from an unknown destination. BITSAT 2019 was held between May 17 to May 22 across different centres across India.

The system was designed in a manner where students would be sitting in front of their computer at the designated exam centres in Vadodara and Ahmedabad, while "expert scholars" would answer test questions on their behalf by taking over the test-takers' computer through a remote desktop technology.

Cases have been filed against Bhaskar Choudhary, managing director of Delhi-based Pathway Education Service; Ketan Barot of Disha Education in Ahmedabad; cyberexperts Sheth Mohammed Usama and Virag Harendra Kumar Shah; Darpan Shirish Pathak, manager of an examination centre in Ahmedabad; and its owner Nishikant Sinha for allegedly supplying answers to the candidates in exchange for monetary gain.

All arrested were produced in a Delhi court on May 25 and were remanded to a 12-day police custody.
