How is the GATE Score calculated?

After the evaluation of all the answers of the GATE Exam are, the actual marks secured by any candidate will be considered for calculating the GATE Score 2026. For GATE papers with multiple sessions, raw marks obtained by the candidates in multiple sessions will be converted into normalized GATE marks for that particular subject. This is how the raw marks for single session papers or normalized marks for more than on session papers are used in order to calculate the GATE Score 2026, based on the qualifying marks.

GATE Normalization Process 2026

GATE 2026 exam will be conducted on exam dates February 7, 8, 14 and 15, 2026. As there were multiple sessions in which the GATE Exam 2025 was conducted, the same normalization process is used to normalize the variations in the difficulty level of the GATE Question Papers across different sessions in which the exam is conducted.

The examination conducting body carries out the normalization process based on the fundamental assumption that “in all multi-session GATE 2025 Papers, the distribution of abilities of candidates is the same across all the sessions".

Formula to Calculate GATE Normalized Score 2026

Given below is the formula for calculating the normalized marks for the multi session GATE Papers 2026

GATE Norm Score

GATE Marks vs Rank 2026
