Online registrations for CCMT National Spot Round 2025 began on August 1. The COAP counselling process for MTech admissions to IITs is over. The counselling process of GATE is held in several rounds for seat allotment based on the GATE cutoff marks.
The GATE exam admission counselling is conducted by the COAP and CCMT portals to offer admission into various institutes and universities. GATE counselling through the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) is conducted for admission to IITs. On the other hand, CCMT (Centralised Counselling for M.Tech) is conducted for admission to top tech institutions other than IITs, such as NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs.

What is GATE 2026 Counselling?
GATE 2026 counselling is not a single centralized process but is conducted separately through different platforms depending on the institute and purpose of admission. There are two major portals for GATE 2026 admission counselling, which are -

GATE Counselling Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria to participate in the GATE 2026 counselling-
- A valid GATE scorecard- The GATE scorecard is valid for three years. However, to be eligible for the GATE CCMT/COAP 2025 counselling, candidates must have a valid GATE 2026 score, which was available for free download from March 28, 2025, till May 31, 2025. Later, candidates must pay a fee of INR 500 per test paper to download the scorecard from June 1 to December 31, 2025. Some institutes also accept scores from previous years (2024 and 2023).
- Educational Qualification- A bachelor's degree (BTech/BE/BArch/BSc/MSc/MCA, etc.) from a recognised university.
- Minimum Percentage Requirement- Candidates must have a minimum of 60% marks or above/ CGPA of 6.0 from a recognised university.
- Category-Specific Criteria- Reserved category candidates, such as ST/SC/PwD, have relaxed cutoff and eligibility norms.

GATE Counselling Documents Required
For the document verification process candidates must bring the following documents. They must ensure that the documents are correct and accurate.
- Provisional seat allotment letter.
- Self-Attested Copy of GATE Score Card (2025 or 2023 or 2024)
- Photo ID proof.
- The original birth certificate was issued by the competent authority, and the Class X (High School) Board Certificate was used as proof of date of birth.
- Class 12 marks sheet.
- Marks sheet of qualifying examination (all semesters).
- Degree/Provisional Certificate
- Category certificate (if applicable).
- Three Passport size coloured photograph
- Seat acceptance fee proof.
- Printout of the Registration form & locked choices.
- Migration Certificate

- Original Conduct Certificate from the Head of the institution last attended.

IIT MTech Admission through GATE COAP Counselling
Candidates seeking admission into the MTech courses that are offered by IITs must participate in the GATE counselling conducted through COAP 2026 for seat allotment. COAP is a platform for candidates applying to M.Tech programs in IITs and for PSU job offers.
It does not conduct the counselling directly but facilitates seat allocation based on GATE scores. To do so, candidates must complete the online registration process on COAP’s official website.
COAP conducts five rounds of seat allotment, and the results are announced after each round's successful conclusion. Five additional rounds of seat allotment are conducted for the vacant seats at IITs not filled during the first five rounds. COAP 2026 seat allotment rounds will take place in May for admission to all IITs across India.

CCMT Eligibility
To be able to participate in the CCMT counselling process, the candidates must ensure that they fulfill the following eligibility criteria.
- Candidates must have a valid GATE score of 2025/2024/2023
- A minimum of 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks must be acquired in the qualifying exam (For General and OBC).
- For SC/ST/PwD category candidates, the eligibility is set at a minimum of 6.0 CGPA or 55% marks.
CCMT Seat Allotment Process
Once the seat is allotted to the candidate, they must take a decision. The following options are available to the candidates -
- Freeze: Accept the allotted seat and exit the counselling process.
