IIT Guwahati, the conducting body of GATE 2026, has opened the registration window of GATE 2026 on August 28, 2025. GATE 2026 Application Form is made available on the official website of IIT Guwahati as well as GATE i.e. gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
Candidates who wish to appear in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) must register themselves before the registration window closes on September 28, 2025 (without late fees). GATE Exam Registration direct link is also available on the official website as well as here on this page.
Candidates applying for the GATE exam must ensure that they meet the GATE eligibility criteria. To fill the GATE form, candidates need to register, fill the GATE 2026 application for, upload documents, and pay the required GATE application fees of INR 1000 and INR 2000 for General and Reserved Categories respectively.

How to Fill GATE 2026 Application Form?
In order to fill out the GATE application form, candidates need to follow certain steps. A brief about the GATE registration procedure is listed below.
- Visit the online portal of GOAPS and complete the GATE Registration Process.
- Fill the GATE Registration Form 2026.
- Upload all the required documents.
- Make the payment of GATE Exam Fees.
- Preview the duly filled GATE Registration Form 2026.
- Submit the duly filled application form completing your GATE Registration.
Note* If there is a delay in receiving the One Time Password, candidates can proceed for making the payment of GATE Exam Fees with verification of either email id or mobile number. The remaining one can be verified later on at another stage.

GATE Registration Procedure (Detailed Guide)
The registration procedure of GATE Exam needs to be completed online on the official website of GATE. Candidates willing to apply for the exam are required to visit the official website of GATE and apply by filling the application form available there. There is a stepwise procedure that candidates must follow in order to fill the application form correctly.
The examination conducting authority make sure to release a guide for successful submission of GATE Registration Form. Below mentioned are the steps to apply for the exam and fill the application form in order to register for the exam
GATE Registration
This is the first step to apply for the examination. Interested candidates must, first of all, register themselves by entering the required details. Candidates must click on “New User” tab if applying for the first time and proceed as per the guide. They will receive access to GOAPS after the registration procedure is completed.
Filling of GATE Application Form
Candidates must log in using the credentials received by them on their registered email id and start filling the GATE Application Form.
Candidates are advised to fill out the details carefully. The mode of the application form is online and must be strictly filled by the candidate. During the GATE application process, candidates have to provide the following information -
- Personal information -(Candidate’s name, Date of birth, Mobile number, Parent’s name, Parent’s mobile number, etc). The information on the application form must match that on a valid photo ID. Candidates are advised to enter all the information correctly to avoid having the application form rejected. Candidates must not use any prefix or title such as Mr./ Shri/ Dr./ Mrs./ Smt./ Prof./ Capt./ Maj./ Lt./ Col. etc. before names.


- Communication details -Address including PIN Code

- Educational Qualifications -School and graduation degree details, college name and address with pin code, etc.
- GATE exam details -Choose options for GATE test papers and GATE examination cities
- A recent photograph and signature as per the specifications
- Scanned copy of documents -Valid ID proof, category certificate, PwD certificate, and Dyslexic certificate in PDF format

Uploading of Important Documents
While filling the application form, candidates must also upload their passport sized photograph, signature, eligibility certificate, SC/ST certificate (if required) as per the specifications mentioned by the exam conducting authority. Candidates must check every detail after filling out the form and must rectify the mistake if found before final submission. Candidates must upload each document as per the prescribed specifications mentioned below -
- Good quality image of the candidate’s photograph conforming to the specifications

Payment of GATE Exam Fees
Candidates must process the payment of GATE Exam Fees via any online payment modes such as net banking, credit card, or debit card. Candidates can check the details of the category-wise GATE 2026 application fee. After completing the application form, click “Submit & Proceed to the payment”. Once the candidate clicks on the “submit & proceed to payment "after filling out the GATE Application form, the GOAPS 2026 Portal redirects the candidate to a new Payment gateway webpage.
GATE Application Form Acceptance
Candidates must read and accept the declaration statement before submitting the GATE Application Form. They must be aware of all the points mentioned in the declaration statement. The GATE Application Form can not be submitted before agreeing to the declaration. Some of the points are mentioned below -
- Confirm that the GATE Registration Form is filled by you.
- You understand every point mentioned in GATE Application Form.
- You agree to strictly abide by the code of conduct for GATE 2026 Exam.
- If any of the information provided by the candidate is later found incorrect, the candidature will be canceled.
- Any legal action for providing incorrect information can be taken against the candidate.
Submission of GATE Application Form
Once the payment is successful, a unique “Fee Payment Number” will be generated, which the candidate MUST save. Before submitting the GATE 2026 exam form, candidates must read and accept the declaration statement provided at the end of the application process stage. Confirm the declaration statement and submit the application form. Candidates must note that they can’t edit the provided details after submitting the form. After submission, candidates can download the GATE 2026 registration form in PDF format and save it for future purposes.

To access the GATE 2026 application form, it is important to keep all the details and documents ready to avoid the last-minute hustle. Aspirants must be aware that the documents that they have to upload during the GATE 2026 registration form must be in the correct format (covering all the specifications). The GATE 2026 documents must be readable, clear, and appropriately scanned. Here is a list of all the documents required during the registration process.
GATE 2025 application form: educational documents required
- The Original/ Passing Degree format is specified in Appendix A of the Information Brochure.
- The certificate must be in PDF Format & file size should be between 10 KB and 300 KB.
- Aadhaar-UID, Aadhaar Virtual ID, Government ID, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID or Driving License are accepted as valid photo ID proof.
- The candidate must bring the original ID proof with the GATE 2026 Admit Card on the examination day.
- The photo ID must clearly show the name, photo, ID number, and date of birth.
- Candidates must ensure that they provide a recent & government-authorised PwD category certificate.
- Benefits would be given to those with benchmark disabilities, i.e., not less than 40% impairment, irrespective of the type of disability.
Dyslexia Certificate for GATE Registrations 2026
- Such a certificate can be obtained from any Dyslexia Association. Some of them are listed below:

Scribe Specifications
- The scribe must not be a candidate for the GATE 2026 examination.
- The educational qualification of the scribe must be less than the minimum eligibility criteria of GATE.
- A panel of (Y+1) scribes for Y candidates will be available at the exam centre so that candidates can choose an alternative scribe for the services.
- Candidates with scribes will be given an extra 1 hour of compensatory time if their writing capabilities are limited.

Tips and Hacks for a smooth GATE application transaction process
Before paying the application fee for GATE 2026, candidates must check their internet connectivity. In case of poor internet connection or glitch issues, candidates must check their transaction status from their bank account and log in again after some time to check the GATE application form payment status. Candidates can contact this phone number— 8037097019 —or send an email to iitggate@ccavenuehelpdesk.zendesk.com for any GATE application payment failure issues.
If the payment is received, the candidate can download the application form. If not, a fresh payment must be initiated. However, if the amount is deducted from the bank account but the payment acknowledgement still needs to be received, the money will be credited back to the source account within 15 days. Candidates are advised to make the payment beforehand to avoid the last-minute rush.
How to Add a Secondary Paper after Submitting GATE 2026 Application Form?
If you have applied for one paper and submitted the GATE 2026 application form, you can still add a Paper II during the application process. To do that, follow the steps below -
- Visit the official website of GATE
- Click on the application form link at the GOAPS portal
- Log in using the credentials - enrollment ID, password, and captcha expression
- Once you are logged in, an application status page will be displayed on the screen. With that, there is an option to add another paper displayed on the screen. You can click the add paper option and select from the options for GATE Paper II.
- Select the paper, pay using any payment mode, and submit the application form. This paper selection is considered your GATE Paper II or secondary paper.
How to Check GATE 2026 Application Status?
In order to check the application status of GATE 2026 Exam, candidates must log in at GATE 2026 Registration Link using their login credentials. If the application status of the exam shows ‘Under Scrutiny/Under Process', then the candidates must not bother about the status. The concerned authorities will scrutinize all the GATE Registration Forms and will send intimation to all the students whose applications need to get rectified.
Forgot Enrolment ID or Password of GATE 2026?
There could be certain situations when students misplace their enrolment id and password. They must know they can use their email id to access their GATE Application Form 2026 should the need arise. To access the application form, you have two options:
- Request an OTP: If you know your Enrollment ID/Email Address but have forgotten your Password, click "Request an OTP" to get a One Time Password. Enter your registered mobile number as well as your Enrollment ID/Email Address. To obtain a new password, click Reset Password.
- Already have an OTP? : To reset your password, click on "Already have an OTP?" if you already have one. To create a new password, enter the following information:
- Email Address/Enrollment ID
- OTP
- Password Change
- Password Confirmation
- Password Requirements: Choose a password that cannot be easily guessed. It should be unique and contain between 8 and 15 characters.
How to Correct Mistakes in GATE 2026 Application Form?
In case candidates have committed any mistakes in the application form of GATE Exam, they can rectify them when GATE Application Form Correction Window opens after the GATE Registration are concluded. They can't make changes in the entire form and only a few specific areas can be rectified by the candidates.
