According to reports, a candidate from Chennai pled to higher authorities regarding the evaluation regulations. According to Lakshmi Sree (petitioner of the plea), the rules of the paper clearly stated to answer the questions in exact numerical value in decimal notation, rounding off to second decimal place. In this way, the candidates would be awarded with full marks, and this was clearly mentioned as per the instructions are concerned.

However, some candidates who have written the answers to only 1 decimal notation have also attained equal number of marks.

Concerning the same issue, Lakshmi had sent an email to the authorities, stating that the candidates who did not follow the exact original instructions as mentioned in the paper, then their scores would definitely affect the scores and ranks of those who had followed the proper rules.

In their defense, the authorities clarified on their website saying that “if an answer is the integer 11, all the answers entered as 11,11.0, or 11.00 will be correct”. Also, according to the authorities, scores and ranks of candidates will not be affected from evaluation through any of the ways.

The Honorable Supreme Court had admitted the plea on June 7 regarding the matter, and passed an interim order which has directed the authorities to evaluate the papers in accordance with the original regulations, that is exact numerical value in decimal point, and rounding off till second decimal place.

According to the SC, the scores might not be affected, but the ranks would definitely vary if full marks were promised on answers up to 2 decimal notations.
