GATE 2020 Application Procedure

The Application Forms for GATE examination are released by the IIT Delhi from August 31 onwards. The GATE Application procedure is an online process and is available through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS). The candidate is required to upload supporting documents, passport size photograph, and signature during GATE Registration.

Requirements for filing the GATE Application Form:

For Indian Candidates:

  • Personal Information including name that should match the college records, date of birth, contact number, email ID and other details.
  • Postal Address details including PIN Code.
  • Qualifying Degree details including the name of the course, year of passing and specialization.
  • College Details including address and PIN Code.
  • Details about GATE such as for which subject the candidate is applying for and preferred examination cities.
  • Scanned image of candidate's passport size photograph.
  • Scanned image of candidate's signature.
  • Scanned copy of candidate's eligibility document in PDF format.
  • Scanned copy of previous degree certificate or provisional certificate.
  • Scanned copy of Category Certificate, in case of candidates from reserved category.
  • Scanned copy of PwD Certificate, in case of candidates from PwD category.
  • Details of ID Proof of the candidate such as Passport, PAN Card, Voter's ID, Aadhar, Driving License, College ID card etc.
  • In order to pay the application fee, bank details are required.

Guidelines for Photograph and Signature:

For Photograph:

  • The candidate is required to scan the color passport size photograph with light background clicked after August 1 of the current year.
  • The width of the photograph must be 3.5 cm and height must be 4.5 cm.
  • The format of the file must be in JPEG format only.
  • 50 percent of the area of the photograph must be covered with the candidate's face and must not be covered by the hair of the head or any other cloth.

For Signature:

  • The candidate must draw a rectangular box of 2 cm (height) x 7 cm (width) on a plain sheet.
  • The signature should be either with black or blue ink pen within the box.
  • The signature must not be in Capital letters.
  • While scanning the signature, make sure that the border of the box is neatly cropped.
  • The scanned image must be in JPEG format.
  • The size of the image must not exceed 160 x 560 in pixels whereas the minimum image size must not be less than 80 x 280 in pixels.

For Foreign Candidates:

  • Personal Information including name that should match the college records, date of birth, contact number, email ID and other details.
  • Postal Address details including PIN Code.
  • Qualifying Degree details including the name of the course, year of passing and specialization.
  • College Details including address and PIN Code.
  • Details about GATE such as for which subject the candidate is applying for and preferred examination cities.
  • Scanned image of candidate's passport size photograph.
  • Scanned image of candidate's signature.
  • Details of the valid photo ID such as passport, government-issued ID, employee ID. 

 

GATE Application Procedure

Following are the stepwise guide for GATE Registration:

STEP 1:

  1. Add the basic details and a unique GOAPS password.
  2. Candidates will receive a GOAPS Enrolment ID on their email ids which will be used in the future for logging in.
  3. This login can be used later for completing the application form at a later stage.

STEP 2:

  1. Filling in the personal details.
  2. The candidates also have to choose three cities for the test centres.
  3. Anyone would be allotted to the candidate.
  4. The candidate will have also to fill up the details of the valid ID proof like an Aadhar card.

STEP 3:

  • Upload the documents, signature, photograph and a thumbprint impression

STEP 4:

  • Payment of the fees through E-challan /net banking.

GATE Exam form correction:

Application form can be corrected in the month of November. The correction will be made after the declaration of the exam. Candidates are strictly advised to check all the details before filling an application form.

Correction Fee:

The fee payment for correction will be done via online mode only.

The fee for correction is mentioned below:

  • Change from SC/ST to General/OBC is Rs.750/-.
  • Change from Female to Male/Others is Rs.750/-.
  • Change from PWD to Non-PWD is Rs. 750/.
  • Change in examination city is Rs. 400/-.

It is to be noted that GATE Corrections/Modifications will be granted in the following fields:

  • Name of Candidate
  • Date of Bir
  • Name of Parent/Guardian
  • Status from Gen to OBC and OBC to General
  • Have you graduated in the above degree?
  • Year of Qualifying Degree

GATE 2020 Eligibility

According to the GATE Eligibility criteria, the candidate aspiring to apply for GATE examination must possess a Bachelor's Degree from a recognized university. There is no minimum or the maximum age limit to appear for GATE examination. The Eligibility Criteria can be further divided into three categories:

  • Nationality
  • Academic Qualification
  • Age Limit criteria

Degree-wise GATE Eligibility:

B.E./B.Tech./B.Pharm.:

  • The candidate must have passed bachelor's degree either of 4 years after Class XII or 3 years after Diploma in Engineering/Technology.
  • The candidates studying in the final year of Graduation can also apply for the examination.
  • The passing year of the Bachelor's degree must not be later than 2019.

B.Arch.:

  • The candidate must have passed bachelor's degree of 5 years in architecture.
  • The candidates studying in the final year of Graduation can also apply for the examination.
  • The passing year of the Bachelor's degree must not be later than 2019.

GATE 2020 Admit Card

GATE Admit card will be released on January 4, 2020, for all candidates. GATE is a national level examination organized by various IITs all over the country. This examination is conducted for providing admissions to students in M. Tech/ME/Direct Ph. D and other programs.

The GATE Admit card would not be sent by post or other channels. Typically, the GATE Admit Card would be containing details such as Name of candidate, Roll Number, Category, Name of Father, Gender, Exam Day and Time, Examination Venue.

The candidate whose enrollment IDs have been displayed on the official website provisionally, have to carry the required documents and submit them to the concerned authorities. Candidates should also check their admit card before taking the printout of the same.

GATE Admit card shall be valid only if the photograph and images of the candidate are legible.
