WBJEE(West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination) is a state-government controlled centralized test for admission to many private and governmental medical and engineering institutions in West Bengal.

For the academic session of 2017–18, the Board will conduct the Common Entrance Examination for admission to Undergraduate Courses in Engineering & Technology, Pharmacy and Architecture Courses in Universities, Government Colleges and Self Financed Institutes in the State. 

WBJEE is a State-Government controlled Centralized Examination which is conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board for admission to private and Government (Medical an Engineering) institutes in West Bengal. The test is taken after 12th Grade admission to graduate courses. The examination would be taken by those who study in the Pure Science Stream in Plus two level with subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology.

About 3 Lakh people undertake the examination every day and the count is increasing. Students belonging to West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education and Central Indian School Certificate Board took the test, though it would mostly be dominated by the first mentioned. It is a prestigious examination and there are few of the students of the science stream who would not take WBJEE Examination in West Bengal.

A lot of colleges would be having an intake of students based on WBJEE Ranks.

The Central Selection Council would be conducting a counseling session for students so that colleges get allotted:

Candidates should be familiar with the WBJEE Exam Pattern. There would be details about the mode of examination, duration, question count, total marks awarded and more in the WBJEE Exam Pattern. There would be three sections – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics that would be involved in the examination. Those would be further divided into 3 categories.

The WBJEE Admit Card would be available from April 12, 2018. The WBJEE Result would be announced on May 23, 2018. The candidates would be required to have a detailed look at the WBJEE Exam Pattern at the time of preparation in order to get an idea of how the exam would be designed. Additionally, the candidates should also go through the WBJEE Exam Syllabus in order to know the list of exhaustive topics that would be tested on the examination. The 3 categories also have been divided into as per the marking scheme.

The characteristics of WBJEE Exam Pattern are as follows:

  • Mode of Examination: Offline
  • Examination Duration: 4 hours
  • Question Type: Objective (MCQ)
  • Sections: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (40, 40 and 75 questions respectively)
  • Category wise questions: Physics and Chemistry (30 Q in Category 1, 5 Q each in 2 and 3)
  • Mathematics: 50 Q in Category 1, 15 Q in category 2 and 10 Q in Category 3
  • Question Count: 155 Questions
  • Total Marks of Examination: 200 marks
  • Negative Marking: ¼ mark deduction

WBJEE Examination would be held on April 22, 2018 and the WBJEE Admit card will be released at wbjeeb.in on April 11, 2018.

WBJEEB Conducts the WBJEE Counseling in an online mode. This process is usually conducted in the month of June. Candidates should make themselves familiar with WBJEE Counseling, Seat Allotment, Schedule, Seat Matrix to understand the counseling in a better way.

Once the candidates register for the WBJEE Counseling, the candidates are expected to pay a fee of an INR 500. The counseling fee can be paid by Debit Card/credit card or e-challan of Allahabad Bank. It becomes mandatory for each and every candidate to register online and pay the counseling fee in order to fill their choices.

WBJEE Seat Allotment by the candidates would be processed centrally and seats shall be provisionally allotted in the order of merit as per GMR or the basis of locked choices.

The candidates who have been allotted a seat would be required to pay the Seat Acceptance Fee using e-challan of Allahabad Bank /Credit Card/Debit Card as required and then go on to download Provisional Allotment Letter.

The WBJEE Result will be announced on May 23, 2018.

The documents that required to be appended to the WBJEE Application are as follows:

  • Passport Size Photo
  • Left-hand thumb impression
  • Domicile and Category Certificate
  • Income Certificate
  • PWD Certificate

The WBJEE Application Fees are INR 500 + Application charges. Candidates can make the payment through offline and online modes.

The WBJEE Tuition Waiver Scheme was implemented by the Government of West Bengal for meritorious and economically backward students who are domiciled in West Bengal for the purpose of admission into universities/university department/government colleges and self-financing institutes.

The eligibility for this scheme is as follows:

  • The total annual Family income of the student must be less than 2.5 Lakhs and the income would be required to be uploaded at the time of online application.
  • The student should be domiciled in West Bengal and a certificate to that extent should be appended to the WBJEE Application Form.
  • The candidate would also be required to submit a photocopy of the original Domicile Certificate.
  • A photocopy of the income certificate would also be required to be submitted by the candidate.
  • The selection of the students for the TFW scheme would be on the basis of their merit and the presence of eligible students.
  • For all Government/Private self-financing institutions a maximum of 5% of intake per course would be available on a supernumerary basis. If students are unavailable or any vacancy is created in the event the student does not report, the seats would not be allotted to students of any other category.

WBJEE 2018 Important Dates

WBJEEB would be conducting the WBJEE Examination on April 22 in an offline mode. Apart from the examination date, the exam conducting authority has also announced important dates associated with Application Form and Admit Card. As per WBJEEB Officials, WBJEE Application form is available from now on, while the last date for application submission is January 19, 2018. 

All the aspiring candidates for the State Level Examination should keep a track of the necessary WBJEE Dates so that they do not lose track of anything else. The important dates of WBJEE are events associated with the State Level Examination like application form availability, application deadline, admit card availability, result, exam dates and seat allotment. WBJEE 2018 Exam Pattern

The WBJEE Exam Pattern has been defined by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board. WBJEE Exam Pattern provides complete details about the overall structure of the WBJEE Examination. WBJEE Exam would be held across 25 districts of states such as West Bengal, Assam and Tripura on April 22, 2018. Candidates seeking to know the exam pattern can refer to the details mentioned below and accordingly structure their preparation.

Candidates will have to appear for a written examination in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

WBJEE 2018 Eligibility

The required qualifications in order to be able to write the WBJEE Examination is being listed as below. Categories such as Age, Nationality, Qualification and Domicile are some of the few that the candidates would be required to fulfill. If the candidates do not fulfill the WBJEE Eligibility criteria before applying for the WBJEE Application, they would not be allowed to write the examination.

  • The candidate must be 17 years of age as on 31 December 2017.
  • There is no upper age limit.
  • The candidate needs to be an Indian National.
  • The candidate must have passed 10+2 exam of WB Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent exam.
  • Individual pass marks with a total of 60% in Physics, Maths, and Chemistry taken together.
  • English must be passed with a minimum of 30%.

WBJEE 2018 Application Procedure

The WBJEE Application Procedure would be beginning from December 19, 2017. WBJEEB has already released the application form. The candidates would be required to register by providing their personal details. The candidates would have to pay a fee of INR 500 and the candidates would have to enter the required details in a correct manner.

WBJEE 2018 Admit Card

WBJEE Admit Card will be available for download from April 11, 2018.

Candidates can log in on the specified date and download their Admit Card for WBJEE 2017. An Examination Roll Number will also be generated for each candidate.The admit card should not be mutilated/soiled/distorted.Failure to produce a clear hard copy of the admit card at the test center will lead to a withdrawal of candidature.Candidates are expected to retain the same admit card till the end of the counseling procedure.A duplicate admit card will not be generated after the exam.

WBJEE 2018 Counseling Details

WBJEE Counselling will comprise of three rounds.

A fourth-round will be held if vacancies exist (for informed choice only) and students can register afresh as per guidelines.A separate notification for counseling was issued on the official website.Only the candidates who had made it to the merit list were able to participate in the e-counseling

Course and college wise details will be uploaded on the website before each round of counseling. Candidates will have to report to a counseling center at a specific date the details of which would be available on the rank card issues to the selected candidates.

The general merit rank will be used for allocating the seats.The merit list for the different categories will be announced separately.

In case of a tie,

  • Less negative marks in PCM taken together 
  • More positive marks in Mathematics and Physics taken together
  • More positive marks in Mathematics and Chemistry taken together 
  • Less negative marks in Mathematics and Physics taken together 
  • Less negative marks in Mathematics and Chemistry taken together 
  • More positive marks in Mathematics for only the 2 marks questions 
  • More positive marks in Physics for only the 2 marks questions 
  • More positive marks in Chemistry for only the 2 marks questions 
  • Less negative marks in Mathematics for only the 2 marks questions
  • Less negative marks in Physics for only the 2 marks questions.

If a tie still persists, the date of birth of the applicants will be considered.Candidate elder in age will be given the advantage.

Reservation

Seats have been reserved for ST/SC/OBC/PwD candidates.Depending on the category of the participating institution, the percentage of reservation varies. 

In State/Government Universities, the reservation criteria is according to the rules of the state government. In Private colleges, reservation is according to the rules of the University.

Some institutions have been granted the minority status.50%of the seats of these institutes have been reserved for the minority candidates.However, admission to these is only through a separate entrance exam conducted by a common minority association.The remaining 50%seats of these colleges are up for grabs through WBJEE only.

A few seats have also been reserved for wards of defense personnel.

10% Seats of self-financed institutions are reserved for the candidates who have achieved a merit in the JEE mains examination.

There is a 10% reservation for management quota in the self-financed institutions.

       7. Is the Application Fee Refundable if a candidate does not take the test?

Ans. No, the Application Fee shall not be refunded under any circumstance. 

       8. What is a WBJEE Correction facility?

Ans. Candidates can make the required changes in their uploaded application forms. 

Score Evaluation

Two separate merit lists shall be issued.

One will be in the form of a GMR applicable for admission to all Degree Level Engineering / Technology / Architecture Courses available in all enlisted Engineering / Technology Colleges and Universities.This list will be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained by the candidate in the WBJEE examination.A  separate category merit rank will also be issued for the candidates belonging to different categories.

The other merit list will be in the form of  PMR applicable for admission to all Degree Level Pharmacy Courses available in all enlisted Pharmacy Colleges and Universities except the degree level pharmacy course available at the Jadavpur University. The list will be prepared in descending order according to the marks scored in the entrance exam.

Intake

Various colleges would be taking students on board on the basis of WBJEE Ranks. The Central Selection Council would be conducting a counseling session for students where colleges would be allotted to them.

WBJEE Cut-Offs

Once the WBJEE Result is declared, the WBJEE Cutoff details would be announced with immediate effect.

Cut off means the minimum rank required to be eligible to gain admission to the numerous colleges under WBJEE.
