Affiliated to West Bengal University of Technology (now Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal), Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata (HIT-K) was established in the year 2000, it is an autonomous private engineering college of east Kolkata region. The college is accredited to the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and recognized by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). A brief history of Heritage Institute of Technology:
A philanthropic group of 22 people, who were aware that to change the world in a good way, education is the only key and to make this education available for everyone in the state, the group established a public charitable foundation by the name of Kalyan Bharti Trust (KBT). The trust has the vision ‘to prepare dynamic and caring citizens to meet the challenges of the global society while retaining their traditional values’ and it turned into reality by providing education from basic to advanced higher levels. To cover the broad field of education the trust started 6 institutions as mentioned below:

Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT-K)
The Heritage Academy (THA)
Heritage Business School (HBS)
Heritage Law College (HLC)
The Heritage College (THC)
Spread in 70 acres of land at Anandapur on the south-eastern spreads of Kolkata city, the college shares its campus with The Heritage School, The Heritage College and The Heritage Academy of Kolkata.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the University of Massachusetts, Lowell for a range of mutual academic, research and education activities of future like:
Summer experiences from UML to the undergraduates.
Dual degree programs with the University, which allow selected students of HIT-K to join the University of Massachusetts, Lowell for completion of their MS degree after successful completion of their Bachelor’s degree from the institute.
Exchange programs for faculty and students for global exposure and provide the chance of paid internships.
Collaboration and cooperation in academic and research programs of the institute, like research on nanotechnology engineering and joint Ph.D. programs.
Institute is in agreement with New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), New Jersey, USA to provide research opportunities for its undergraduate students and established a mutual understanding of new progress made in the field of research and education of both the countries.
HIT-K also signed a MoU with College of Natural Science, which is a part of Sungkyunkwan University, Korea to fulfill objectives like:
Mutual exchange of faculty, Staff, and students across both countries
Involvement in collaborative research projects
Encouraging the exchange of research publications and academic information
Promoting and supporting the academic needs of each other.
