The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will open the seat withdrawal and response-to-withdrawal-query window for Round 6 (applicable to NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs) from July 16 to July 22, 2025.

Who can utilise the seat withdraw option?

Only the below listed candidates can opt for the seat withdrawal option.

  • Only candidates allotted a seat in the Round 6 (final round) for the NIT+ system are eligible.
  • This window allows candidates to formally exit the JoSAA counselling process if they don’t wish to accept the seat or want to explore CSAB/Special rounds.

What happens during this window?

  • Seat Withdrawal Initiation: Candidates can submit their withdrawal request via the JoSAA portal.
  • Query Response: If JoSAA raises any queries regarding the withdrawal, candidates must respond by July 22, 2025.

Why is timely action crucial?

Missed deadlines mean your request may not be processed in time, causing delays or denial of withdrawal.

You become eligible to participate in CSAB counselling rounds if you exit successfully.

How to Initiate Withdrawal

To initiate the JoSAA counselling seat withdrawal process, the following process must be followed.

  • Log into the JoSAA portal (using your application number and password).
  • Navigate to the “Seat Withdrawal” section (available only for eligible candidates).
  • Submit withdrawal request by selecting relevant options and filling in required details.
  • Monitor your portal for any queries from JoSAA; respond promptly before July 22.

What About Seat Acceptance Fees?

Candidates who withdraw a seat during this window may be eligible for a partial refund after deduction of JoSAA processing charges (as per current JoSAA rules).

If the seat is retained, you must comply with the normal seat acceptance fee deadlines (by July 21, 2025).

What are the Next Steps After Withdrawal?

Candidates can check the next steps after the seat withdrawal listed below.

  • If you opt out, you can move to CSAB Special Rounds for NIT+ seats.
  • You'll need to register afresh and submit choices within those scheduled rounds.
  • Forgoing withdrawal means your Round 6 seat stands confirmed—no further upgrades in JoSAA.
