JEE Main registrations 2026 are expected soon, and as per the latest reports and news, the candidates may not be required to choose the preferred exam cities anymore. As per latest speculations, the exam cities will be auto allocated to the candidates by NTA. However, Any official confirmation on this will be available once the JEE Mains 2026 notification is released at jeemain.nta.nic.in.
According to media reports, NTA is planning to introduce a major change for the JEE Mains exam from 2026, under which students may not be allowed to choose their exam city. An official confirmation about the same is still awaited. A similar provision has been observed in the INI CET 2025 registration, where candidates can only choose the state and have no city preferences.
It is being anticipated that the authorities might also consider auto-fetching of data through the Aadhar number. This is highly expected as the authorities issued an advisory asking all applicants to update their Aadhaar and other documents before the JEE Main registration process begins.
Under the reportedly new provision, NTA will auto-allocate exam cities based on the students' address details mentioned on the Aadhaar card. This will make the form-filling process shorter and simpler, but will take away the candidate's option for choosing their preferred centre. Many parents and students raise concerns over this speculated decision, saying it might cause inconvenience and add to travel costs if their Aadhaar details are not updated timely.
