Deepak Vasant Kesarkar is the new education minister of Maharashtra. The cabinet was set up after a long-standing political crisis in Maharashtra. He is a member of the 14th Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and holds the Ministries of Marathi Language, Environment and Climate Change, along with the education ministry. Political Career of Education Minister of Maharashtra

Deepak Kesarkar was born on July 18, 1955 to Vasant Kesarkar in Sawantwadi, Maharashtra. He has had a very vibrant political career since 2009 when he was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly (1 term). Later, in 2014, he was re-elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly (2nd term) and given the charge of Minister of State for Finance, Rural Development in the Maharashtra State Government. He was also the guardian minister of the Sindhudurg district in 2014. Subsequently, in 2016, he was the minister of State for Home (Rural), Finance, and Planning in the Maharashtra State Government.  He was also elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in 2019.

The vision the education minister shared for Konkan has a prime focus on farmers, fisheries, tourism, education, and industry while keeping the rich heritage of Konkan intact. He talked about the need and support from all the stakeholders, which includes the people of the region, for the development of Konkan. School education in Maharashtra

Primary education is mandatory and must be provided as per state law. School education in Maharashtra had a major setback during the pandemic, and the students have faced issues due to the lack of facilities. As per Government of India Guidelines, the Mid-day Meal Scheme  has been a great enabler in increasing the number of students attending school, which was extended by Govt. of Maharashtra to cover children in upper primary (VI-VIII) since 1st January 2008. The government is also in the process of closing down schools with fewer than 20 students. The government has been working towards implementing the NEP 2020.
