Fergusson College Info
The establishment of Fergusson College took place in the year 1884. It is affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University and approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The Fergusson College has also been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a grade of ‘A’. Fergusson College Pune is an ‘Autonomous’ College.
Fergusson College Pune is mainly known for offering courses in the field of Arts and Science. The college offers programs at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. Fergusson College had the privilege to have Professor Vaman Shivram Apte as its first principal.
And the second principal of the college was the famous Social reformer, journalist, thinker and educationist Gopal Ganesh Agarkar, who served as its second principal from August 1892 till his death in June 1895. The area of the Fergusson College Pune Campus is around 65 acres. The Campus of Fergusson College houses museums for each department, huge labs and other facilities.
The building is old and holds so much history in the form of some books and manuscripts for students to access. The Fergusson College is among the other nineteen colleges to receive the tag of National Heritage Institution, and because of this Fergusson College receives financial assistance for preserving the college. The tag was given in the year 2015 by the UGC.
