Madras University established the Institute of Distance Education (IDE) in 1981. Since that year, Madras University has offered distance learning courses. The University provides a wide range of UG and PG distance learning courses in the domains of arts, medicine, management, law, hospitality, and computer applications.

IDE offers 65-degree programs. Overall, Madras University provides BA, B.Sc., BCA, B. Com, MA, M.Sc., M.CA, M. Com, MBA, and more degree courses. While UG courses are merit-based, PG programs require entrance exams score. There are two admissions cycles per year, which are January-December and July-June. Madras University Distance Education: UG Admissions 2024

The IDE at Madras University provides 15 UG programs with a variety of specializations. The university offers B.A., B.Sc., B.Com, B.BA, B.CA, and B.Lit. programs. All of these programs are full-time courses with a duration of 3 years. The eligibility criteria for all the courses are Class 12th pass.
