An RTI request by an alumnus has cast doubt on IIT Madras’ placement record. Dheeraj Singh, an IIT Kanpur graduate, claims his data suggests a worrying trend that up to 45% of final-year students at IIT Madras might remain unplaced this year.
However, IIT Madras has dismissed these claims as premature. The institute maintains that placements are still ongoing, and a clearer picture will emerge when the official report is released in July 2024. About IIT Madras Placements 2024: Phase 1 of IIT Madras Placements 2024 has concluded with 55% student placements. As per the Media report, the IIT Madras Median package is Rs. 19 LPA. Further, the institute boasts a 19% rise in core placements & a hike in international PG offers, compared to last year. The Final Phase preparations for the IIT Madras Placements have been started. Apart from this, top recruiting companies such as Microsoft, JP Morgan, and McKinsey & Company took part in the placement drive.
In 2023, IIT Guwahati had 1612 offers with the Highest Domestic Package of Rs. 1.31 Crores. Around 80% of the total registered students were placed. The institute has invited 480+ companies from various sectors, including IT, finance, consulting, FMCG, and core engineering. Based on reports, the IIT Madras had 25 offers of over Rs. 1 crore per annum. Additionally, 15 international offers were received from four companies. IIT Madras received 350 PPOs during the placements, the highest number of pre-placement offers ever.
The IIT Madras Highest Package offered to B.Tech during the Placements in 2023 was Rs. 1.31 Crore Per Annum. The Median package stood at Rs. 17 LPA. However, the Highest Package for M.Tech was Rs. 49.70 LPA. Top recruiters such as Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, McKinsey & Company, etc. have offered 1612 offers during the placements.

IIT Madras Summer Internship Placement Report 2024
IIT Madras invites for the summer fellowship program applications for the academic year 2024-2025. Interested candidates must submit the application form by 5 pm on 31 March 2024. A maximum stipend of Rs. 6000 per month stipend will be offered to all the selected candidates for this 2-month Summer Fellowship program.

IIT Madras Course-Wise Placement 2023
The IIT Madras’ Highest package in 2023 was Rs. 1.31 Crore per Annum. The package was offered to the B.Tech, DD, and IDDD from Computer Science and Engineering. The Median package of the M.Tech was Rs. 15 LPA.

IIT Madras had 1612 job offers during the 2023 placements. Top Companies from various sectors were invited during this placement drive. IT/ ITES & Software sector placed the highest number of students with a 28.1% placement rate followed by the Core Engineering sector with 27.6%.

IIT Madras Year-Wise Placement Trends
According to the official website, during the IIT Madras placements in 2022, more than 480 companies extended 1,491 job offers. Engineering and Technology emerged as the top sector, with 24.3% of students placed.
Many students received salary packages between Rs. 10 LPA - and Rs. 15 LPA. For B.Tech, the highest package offered was Rs. 2.14 crore per annum, and for MTech students, it was Rs. 46.08 LPA.
The median package for MS and MSc students was Rs. 15 LPA and Rs. 14 LPA, respectively. Moreover, the highest package recorded for MA and MBA courses was Rs. 22 LPA and Rs. 25.30 LPA, respectively, at IIT Madras.
