What is AISSCE?

All India Senior School Certificate Test (AISSCE) is the last examination held at the conclusion of each academic year by the CBSE. The AISSCE test results are used to determine college admissions for undergraduate courses. The subjects included in these board exams are determined by the stream chosen by the student following the tenth grade. Medical, non-medical, business, and arts are the four most common streams from which students choose. However, the examination pattern and grades remain consistent throughout. The subjects vary. If a student does not qualify with a passing score, he or she must repeat the test. AISSCE full form results are utilized for entrance to several colleges as well as scholarships at select institutions. Because the board has discontinued the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation pattern as a result of the Joint Employment Test, NEET, and other exams, the test is now administered by the National Testing Agency. Mathematics, Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), and Social Science (History, Geography, Political Science, Economics) are required in this test, along with any two languages (official medium language and foreign/schedule languages).

Importance of AISSCE Full Form

AISSCE is a test that every student must take in order to be admitted to a college or higher education institution. The following significance of AISSCE by CBSE are following:

  1. Maintains Consistency: Because AISSCE is the test that all 12th grade students must take, it gives a feeling of consistency in the school's curriculum. Furthermore, because all CBSE-affiliated schools use NCERT textbooks, kids who must switch schools on a frequent basis do not suffer academically. Help is also easily available with a consistent and planned curriculum. AISSCE is open to pupils from both affiliated and non-affiliated schools, according to CBSE.
  2. Structure that is compact: The CBSE curriculum's syllabus is well-structured and very simple. After the tenth grade, the disciplines are split to meet the needs of students in various streams. In addition, the NCERT textbooks used by CBSE are well-written. The fundamental ideas are fully discussed. Furthermore, there are various questions accessible to put what was learned in the chapters into practise. Students will have prepared for competitive tests in addition to AISSCE.
  3. Discipline: Students are uninformed of the facial setting of the examination when studying for AISSCE, which adds an element of surprise. It motivates students to study more, cover all areas, and be well-prepared in general.

The Study and Impact of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation

In India, the tests, sometimes known as "board exams," are highly anticipated. Children used to study in an evaluation stream known as the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation. To alleviate student stress, the then-Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal implemented this strategy. The entire year has been split into two semesters, according to the new trend-setter. Each semester had two formative and one summative tests. Previously, the test was held at the end of the year; however, with the semester schedule, the exam is separated into parts. The first half lasted from April to September, while the second half lasted from October to March.

Is AISSCE and CBSE the same?

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is India's national and largest education board for private and public schools. At the same time, AISSCE stands for All India Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, a class 12th examination administered by the CBSE. The AISSCE is for class 12, whereas the AISSE, or All India Secondary School Examination, is for class 10, and both are controlled by the CBSE.

AISSCE Pattern

AISSCE subjects are assessed out of 100 points. The test for courses such as Chemistry, Biology, and others is graded out of 70/80 points, with 20/30 reserved for practicals. The Central Board of Secondary Education is also thinking about incorporating practicals into disciplines such as Mathematics and Social Sciences. Each test lasts three hours and includes both short and long theory questions.  Students must pass AISSCE with a minimum of 33 marks in each subject. The time of the practical examinations vary depending on the subject and the practical to be conducted. The practical are held at a CBSE-selected location.

Students must also follow the directions given below-

  1. Students must be at the testing centre at least 30 minutes before the exam begins.
  2. Students must also provide their admission cards to their respective schools at least 2-3 weeks before the examinations.
  3. Exam results are generally released online in the first week of May.
  4. However, due to the emergence of COVID-19, the timeframe for conducting tests has shifted beginning in 2020. As a consequence, according to the most recent rumours, the results will be announced by mid-July this year.

AISSCE Examination

Each subject in the test is evaluated out of 100 points. For disciplines with practical tests, such as physics, chemistry, geography, and biology, 30/20 marks are designated for practicals and internals, while 70/80 marks are reserved for theory exams. Even in non-science/lab-based topics, CBSE set recommendations in 2020 to conduct internal assessments for 20 marks, with just the theoretical test filling the 100-mark requirement till 2019. The duration of theory papers is 3 hours, while the duration of practical tests varies depending on the topic.

  • Components of the Exams

Each subject is graded out of a total of 90 (theoretical/written) points, with 10 points awarded for practical assessment techniques such as assignments, classroom projects, and presentations. According to the new pattern, each subject is graded out of a total of 80 points (theoretical), with the remaining 20 points (internal assessment) divided into 5 points for practical assessment, 5 points for notebook submission, and 10 points for practise tests conducted autonomously by schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education.

The Central Board of Secondary Education modified this format for the 2019-20 academic year, keeping the same 80 marks for theory but increasing the number of questions and providing more internal options in the paper.

  • Post-Examination

In the absence of entrance examinations, schools and junior colleges in India frequently utilise All India Secondary School Examination scores for admission to upper secondary subjects (humanities, sciences, commerce, or vocational programmes). As a result, the tests become the deciding element in determining which path the student would be comfortable in.

Some Indian states (for example, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, West Bengal, Karnataka, and Kerala) hold their own secondary school examinations, known as Secondary School Certificate (SSC), Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC), and Matriculation. The CBSE's All India Secondary School Examination (AISSE), the ICSE's Class X Examination, and the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Examinations for Class 10th are all the same and are equal to the General Certificate of Secondary Education taken by pupils in the United Kingdom.

Other national boards assessment schemes

The Central Board of Secondary Education and other central boards, such as the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations and the National Institute of Open Schooling, have schools all over the country that follow their educational scheme.
