The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is launching a first-of-its-kind four‑year B.Tech in Design from the 2025–26 academic year. This innovative programme blends engineering and design thinking—geared towards students who qualified in JEE Advanced 2025, with additional screening via UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design).
Who Can Apply?
- Students must have passed both the UCEED 2025 and JEE Advanced 2025; passing only one is insufficient.
- Applicants must have completed Class 12 in 2024 or 2025, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects.
- UCEED candidates must meet age criteria—born on or after October 1, 2000 (with a five‑year relaxation for SC/ST/PwD).
What Makes It Special?
This degree is not like other engineering degrees. The goal of the transdisciplinary curriculum is to develop students' capacity for creativity, empathy, and problem-solving. About half the subjects focus on design—like design thinking, prototyping, product design, research methods, and communication. The rest include engineering, humanities, management, and policy, encouraging cross-department collaboration.
The objective? To prepare graduates capable of tackling real-world, “wicked” socio-technical problems with both analytical rigor and creative insight .
Curriculum Highlights
- 155 credits over four years, with an initial intake of around 20 students.
- Coursework includes design frameworks, prototyping, mechanics, environmental science, research methods, communication, teamwork, entrepreneurship, and exhibition design.
- New structure across IIT Delhi emphasises flexible electives, experiential learning, ethical awareness, and stronger faculty interaction.
