CAT 2019 Application Procedure

Before understanding the CAT Application Procedure, the candidate must know the documents required for registration:

  • Passport Size Photograph: The candidate must upload the scanned image of passport size photograph with width of 30 mm and height of 45 mm. The size of the image must not be more than 80 KB and should be in JPEG/JPG format only.
  • Signature: The candidate must upload the scanned image of their signature with blue or black pen on a plain paper with width of 80 mm and height of 35 mm. The size of the image must not be more than 80 KB and should be in JPEG/JPG format only.
  • Category Certificate: The candidates who belong to Reserved Category i.e. Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe or Other Backward Caste must upload a scanned copy of their category certificate while application process.

The CAT Application Process involves three steps i.e. CAT Registration, Logging in the website and lastly Filling the Application Form. The candidate applying for CAT examination must read the steps involved in registration carefully.

Steps to fill CAT Application Form:

Step 1: Registration

  • Visit the official website of CAT and Click on ‘New Candidate Registration' link available on the home page.
  • The candidates who are already registered for the examination must click on ‘Registered Candidate Login' available on the home page.
  • The candidates who are new and registering for the examination must provide details such as Name, Date of Birth, Email Address, Mobile Number, and Country.
  • The candidate must check all the details before submitting the registration form. Once the form is submitted, the changes can't be made. The name of the candidate should be the same as mentioned in the class X certificate. Refer the virtual calendar before entering your Date of Birth.
  • Do remember to provide a valid email id and mobile number. The CAT Username or ID will be sent to the same email id or mobile number.
  • Once you provide all the information, click on generate OTP button and enter the captcha. Select the ‘I Agree' box and submit the form.
  • After submitting the registration form, the candidate will receive a login credential through an SMS or an email on the registered email id and mobile number.

Step 2: Login

  • Visit the official website and log in by using the system generated User ID and Password.

Step 3: Filling the Application Form

The last and the final step i.e. ‘Filling the Application Form' involves five sections i.e. Personal Details, Academics, Work Experience, Programmes, Test City and Payment.

Personal Details include following information:

  • Fathers'/ Husbands'/ Guardians'/ Mothers' Name
  • Category details that whether the candidate is from Reserved Category or Unreserved Category. In case, if the candidate is from Reserved Category then the candidate must upload the Category Certificate also while uploading the other documents.
  • Aadhar Card details
  • Gender of the candidate
  • The nationality of the candidate
  • Providing details of Postal Address, Email ID and Mobile Number.

Details to be mentioned in Academics section:

  • Class X Scores
  • Class XII Scores
  • Details about Bachelors' Degree
  • Details about Masters' Degree
  • Other Professional Course details

Details to be mentioned in the Work Experience section:

  • The candidates with Work Experience must provide details about their work which includes How long has the candidate worked, what was the industry-type, Was it a full-time or a part-time job, etc. The work experience includes Internships, Part-time jobs, Article ship, Pre-Grad experience.

Choosing the Programme:

  • The next step involves selecting the Indian Institutes of Management, where the candidate aspires to seek admission along with the details about the course. The candidate is also required to mention the city for Interview Round.

Paying the Application Fee:

  • Once the candidate completes filling the Application Form, the last step is to pay the CAT Application Fee. There will be three modes of Payments i.e. BillDesk, PayTM and PayU. The candidate is required to select a payment gateway and proceeds towards fee payment.
  • The Online Fees for the candidates of General and OBC-NC categories is INR. 1900 whereas the same for the candidates of the reserved category is INR. 950.

Confirmation Mail:

  • After the payment of Application Fee, the candidate will receive a confirmation mail on the registered email id. The confirmation mail will also carry details about the CAT Admit Card.

Things to remember while CAT Registration:

  • The candidate must fill all the fields with * mark, as those fields are mandatory.
  • The candidate must upload the scanned copies of the required documents.
  • Before submitting the form do remember to check the mentioned details carefully.
  • The application process can be completed by logging in multiple times.
  • Once the Application Fee is paid, the candidate will not be able to make any changes in the application form. 

CAT 2019 Eligibility

Every year CAT Eligibility Criteria is prescribed by the IIM responsible for conducting the examination, but the basic eligibility criteria remain the same. The eligibility conditions determine if the candidate is eligible to write the Common Admission Test (CAT) or not.

The basic eligibility criteria for CAT are as follows:

  • The candidate must have passed graduation from a recognized university with a minimum of 50 percent aggregate from a recognized university.
  • The candidates belonging to Reserved Category will be provided a relaxation of 5 percent. Those candidates require a minimum of 45 percent aggregate from a recognized university.
  • There is no age limit to appear for CAT exam
  • There is no maximum limit to appear for the examination i.e. the candidate can attempt the exam numerously.

Details about CAT Eligibility:

CAT 2019 Admit Card

CAT Admit Card will be released in the month of October. The Admit Card will be issued only to those candidates whose application form is accepted by the examination conducting authority. The candidate will require CAT registered ID and Password to download their respective admit card. The admit card will carry information such as personal details of the applicant, exam date, exam timings, and exam centre. The admit card must be carried to the examination hall on the exam day as the candidate will not be allowed to enter the exam hall without admit card.
