On September 9, the IIM Raipur declared the mandatory step IIM JAP for all the CAT qualified candidates willing to pursue their desired course in selective IIMs in India. The IIM JAP stands for Indian Institute of Management Joint Admission Process and it is a mandatory step for all the students who aspire to be a part of IIM Raipur, IIM Kashipur, IIM Ranchi and IIM Tiruchirappalli.
The JAP 2026 is introduced to help institutes simplify the MBA admission process and establish a more transparent procedure for admission. Earlier the institutes followed IIM CAP (common admission process). IIM Raipur as of now is in charge of monitoring the JAP 2026 and students will have to meet the eligibility norms as per the same institute to be considered eligible for admission.
Students must note that IIM JAP will be conducted once the CAT 2025 examination has been concluded and only qualified candidates who have obtained at least a minimum cut-off percentile of the participating IIMs will be permitted to register for the same. To learn more about the same, check out the following.

How is JAP Different from CAP?
The Joint Admission Process (JAP) and Common Admission Process (CAP), are both designed to simplify MBA admission procedure in IIMs. JAP 2026 initiated by IIM Kashipur, Raipur, Ranchi, and Tiruchirappalli, simplifies the application stage for applicants as all four IIMs offer a joint application to be completed after the CAT exam.
IIM Raipur, in conjunction with the other three IIMs involved in JAP will coordinate the IIMs admissions process for the 2026 admissions cycle. CAP, similarly designed for various newer IIMs, simplifies the interview stage for CAT qualified aspirants and this process includes Personal Interview or Written Ability Test (WAT), the results of which are shared among all IIMs that participated in the admission process.
Key Differences:
→ JAP - One form for 4 IIMs, coordinated by IIM Raipur (2026).
→ CAP - One interview for many new IIMs, coordinator changes yearly.
→ JAP cuts multiple applications.
→ CAP cuts multiple interviews.
