IIT Kharagpur has a 2100-acre campus which is like a self-sufficient ecosystem in itself with education, accommodation, recreation, and other utilities all available on-site. The institute has separate hostels for girls and boys, with Wi-Fi and LAN access, and a cafeteria. It has 19 departments, 7 multidisciplinary schools, and 12 schools with a central library which has a collection of over 30,000 books and documents. The Nehru Museum and Technology also has indoor exhibits and outdoor demonstrations, whereas the Rural Museum depicts culture and history.
