IIT Kharagpur provides a Joint MTech-PhD or MCP-PhD program. The college has 42 specializations at the postgraduate level for which admission is on the basis of a valid GATE exam score. Students with a CGPA of 8.0 and more are eligible after the first year and can take up a written test or interview for possible enrollment in the PhD program. The students who are unqualified for PhD can pursue the two-year MTech/MCP program. Those looking forward to enrolling for PhD must first qualify for the MTech/MCP program. Both degrees are given after the completion of PhD. Students possessing a Bachelor's degree in the relevant fields can apply for the course with a valid GATE score. There are also reserved seats for different categories. IIT Kharagpur MTech admission 2024 through GATE has started. Only those candidates who have qualified NET and have fellowships are considered for the MCP program admission.

Firstly the interested candidates must apply online for the GATE examination through the official website. Before applying for the MTech program at the college, candidates must register on the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). The COAP registration number is needed while applying for admission to the institute.
The male/transgender candidates belonging to the GE/EWS/OBC categories need to pay an application fee of INR 500 whereas the female candidates or those belonging to the PwD/SC/ST categories need to pay an application fee of INR 250.
