Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU) is a public state university located in Darbhanga, Bihar; it was established in 1972 and is recognized by the UGC and is affiliated with a B++ NAAC. Previously called Mithila University, it is spread over 201 acres and acts as a centre of higher learning, research, and regional development. The university has a host of undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), doctoral and professional courses offered in a variety of areas, including Economics, Commerce, and English, while MBA and BEd are its flagship programmes. The university encompasses 24 affiliated colleges and 43 constituent colleges and includes facilities such as the Research Centre, Remote Sensing Lab, and Braille Lab. Additionally, LNMU offers distance education in a wide variety of fields.
The university has an active campus life with everything from sports activities to cultural fests, NSS activities and student clubs. With supporting facilities such as a library, cafeteria, gym, and auditorium, students work to achieve their academic aspirations while enjoying supportive non-academic pursuits. LNMU enjoyed a placement rate of around 60% in 2024, and offers all of its students career guidance and job exploration opportunities through its placement assistance cell. The university has produced well-known alumni including Subrata Roy, Saket Kushwaha, and Hukmdev Narayan Yadav. Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU) is accepting applications for the 2025 academic session via online and offline modes. Students can get a seat available by answering by academic merit and qualifying by the entrance examination (either common entrance tests or national level entrance examinations depending on the programme or course). The most common national levels of entrance exams include MAT and CMAT. The university also conducts their own Common Entrance Test (CET) for other programmes.

The 2024 NIRF overall report for Lalit Narayan Mithila University gives us some important placement trends for 2023. For UG 4-year courses the median salary package was INR 3.5 LPA from 56 students who were placed (eight of which we went to work) and for PG 2-year courses we had a higher median package at INR 4 LPA.
In terms of year-on-year changes, we saw that the median packages for UG 4-year courses dropped about 18% compared to last year. However, for PG 2-year courses median salary packages increased over 14 over last year.
