IIT Madras is all set to admit the second batch of students into its B.Tech program in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics in the academic year 2025-26. The course, which began in 2024, has already gained a lot of attention for its unique blend of theory, practical skills, and real-world applications.
The JEE Advanced exam will be used to decide who gets in, and there are 50 spots available for the next group. With the help of a kind donation of ₹110 crore from alumnus Sunil Wadhwani, the program is being offered under the recently founded Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI.
The course is structured to give students a strong foundation in maths, data science, and machine learning, along with training in building and using AI models responsibly. Students will also get hands-on experience in applying these skills in various industries like healthcare, finance, and robotics.
Professor V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, shared that the curriculum has been carefully designed to meet the growing demands of both the industry and the research world. “We want students to not only understand how AI works, but also how to use it for solving real problems in a responsible way,” he said.
Apart from the traditional classroom learning, students can take part in internships and research projects, which give them an idea of how AI works in the real world. Additionally, a large selection of electives is offered, which helps the students to pursue interests they have.
The B.Tech in AI program at IIT Madras is an interesting road for students who want to learn more about the future technology and also in-depth about its uses. Students who pass JEE Advanced can choose this program during their counseling at JoSAA. It includes real-world scenarios and prepares them for anything that may come up in the future.
