CAT Exam Pattern and CAT Syllabus 2025 PDF

CAT Syllabus for MBA 2025 and CAT Exam Pattern have undergone various changes in the last 3 years. From the year 2015 to 2019, CAT Question Paper used to consist of 100 questions to be completed in 3 hours i.e. 180 minutes.

In the year 2020, the exam pattern of CAT Question Paper got revised due to the pandemic – COVID-19. The total number of questions in CAT Exam was then reduced to 76 and even the time duration was reduced to 2 hours i.e. 120 minutes.

The total number of questions in CAT Exam was further reduced to 66. CAT Exam 2023 was also changed according to the revised pattern. The CAT Exam Pattern 2025 for CAT 2025 Exam has been mentioned below.

VARC Syllabus for CAT

This section will contain 24 questions wherein 14 question are from Reading Comprehension and the other 10 questions are from Verbal Ability. What are the factors to keep in mind to cover CAT syllabus timely?

CAT syllabus is vast. It has numerous topics from Verbal Ability, Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation. Covering the CAT syllabus also includes practicing a variety of sample questions on the topics included. Thus, it requires a lot of time. Candidates must given themselves atleast 3-4 months to cover CAT syllabus and keep in mind the following - Check the previous years' CAT papers to know topics which carry more weightage so that you can focus on those topics more; Divide topics into easy, moderate and tough and allot time to them accordingly; Aim to study at least 6-8 hours per day to complete the syllabus 2-3 months before the exam; After studying every topic, practice sample questions; Balance theory with practical.

If I am preparing for CAT, do I need to prepare separately for MAT?

No, CAT and MAT syllabuses are almost same. MAT is easy. If you are preparing for CAT then no need of separate work for MAT. The syllabus is almost the same. I was also a student who prepared for CAT immediately after my graduation. The important things which you should look into while preparing for this exam are as follows: 1. Select one of the best coaching centers which offer quality education- TIME is one of the famous coaching centers for CAT. 2. Dedication- Be focused on the aim which you need to achieve. 3. Try to read Hindu newspaper editorial. Most of the passages which appear in CAT are from Hindu editorial. 4. Try to maximum number of online mock test. You will definitely clear CAT by doing the above. 5. Try to read as much as you can and make note of points. 6. Revision of each week topics is very important. 7. Mathematical ability questions will be little twisted try to do as faster as you can. These are my tips for you to crack both MAT and CAT.

What is the difference between CAT and XAT syllabus?

CAT has three sections – Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude. XAT has four sections – Verbal and Logical Ability, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation, Decision Making and General Knowledge. While CAT is Quant heavy, XAT is more tilted towards Reasoning.
