Masters of Fine Arts Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for most colleges for the MFA program in India can vary from university to university. However, a general overview of the eligibility criteria for the Masters of Fine Arts program is listed below:

  • Aspiring students must have attained a bachelor’s degree from any recognized university. 
  • Students looking to apply for the MFA program must have scored a minimum score between 50%-55% in their undergraduate to be considered eligible for the MFA program. 
  • If applicable, students must attain the required cutoff criteria or rank as stated by their university of choice to be considered eligible for the Masters of Fine Arts program.

MFA Admission Process 2025

It is important to note that most application forms for the MFA course are available in the Spring of a respective year and remain until June. Universities usually assess and announce the selected students by the months of July or August. 

A general overview of the MFA admission process for this year can be as follows:

  • Step 1: Reviewing the program offered by the university and if the university of choice’s program meets a student’s needs such as placements, faculty, specializations and subjects that they wish to study.
  • Step 2: If happy with the review process, students can apply either through offline or online methods depending upon their convenience or choice of university.
  • Step 3: Students upon deciding their university of choice to apply for also need to pay for application fees as well.
  • Step 4: After choosing which universities to aim for, students need to check if the college of their choice selects them on the basis of their merit or on the basis of their rank on entrance exams.
  • Step 5: Via merit, students are selected on the basis of their scores in their undergrad, high-school (10+2) scores, portfolios (if applicable) and overall experience. If selected, these aspirants may have to undertake interviews and other forms of further evaluation.
  • Step 6: Through the entrance exam route, students must meet the needed cutoff criteria or rank in their performances on specific entrance exams such as the CUET PG and LPUNEST.
  • Step 7: After completing all forms of evaluation students need to wait while colleges make their decision. 
  • Step 8: If accepted, students receive an email and an offer letter. Students need to confirm their enrollment and pay the needed fees.
