Bishop Heber College is a minority educational institution established in 1966 at Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu. However, the history of the college can be traced to the year 1762, when Christian Frederick Schwartz- the first German Missionary established a small school in Tiruchirapalli. Later, the school was renamed after Reginald Heber, the Lord Bishop of Calcutta. In 1882, it became the first Grade College and then it was known as SPG College. Later, in the year 1934, it was merged with Madras Christian College. The college was affiliated with Bharathidasan University and was granted the status of ’Autonomy’ in the year 2004. It offers around 13 Under Graduates, 18 Post Graduates, 4 Post Graduate Diploma Programmes and 3 Diploma Programmes in the field of Science, Commerce and Humanities. The Institute provides courses with fees ranging from INR 2,000 to INR 120,900 for applicants. BHC College is ranked 43 by NIRF 2022 Rankings and is accredited A+ level by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). BHC was also awarded the status of “College of Excellence” by the University Grant Commission (UGC) in 2017. The college also welcomes students of diverse religions and beliefs to enroll.

The college provides Master’s degrees in a variety of fields as well as professional courses such as MCA and MBA. Except for MCA, which is three years long, other PG courses are two years long. It also provides PG Diploma programmes in a variety of specialisations.

Bishop Heber College M.Phil and PhD. Admission 2023

The college also offers admission to M.Phil. and PhD programmes in a variety of specialisations within several fields. Bharthidasan University offers admission to full-time and part-time M.Phil programmes based on the merit of the qualifying degree.  Bharthidasan University conducts written tests and interviews for Ph.D. admissions. Every year, applications for Ph.D. programmes are accepted in the months of December, March, June, and September. M.Phil admissions are open to students with a Master’s degree and a CGPA of 5.51 on a 10-point scale.
