The National Board of Education for Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has once again found itself in trouble with regards to the NEET PG examination. Students who appeared for the examination in early August have filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court of India with demands for more transparency from the exam board. This issue is being raised with regards to unaddressed concerns by the exam board about the NEET PG answer key, raw marks and recorded responses.
NBEMS’ Lack of Accountability
NBEMS has been under a lot of scrutiny, especially by students due to their conduct over the NEET examination in recent years. The board has been under scrutiny by students for quite some with regards to their lack of transparency. These include issues relating to the release of answer keys, response sheets and an overall lack of accountability.
Earlier in the month, with the release of the merit list of the 50% All India Rank Quota, students did raise their concerns for wanting the release of the answer key for the NEET PG examination. The board assured students that the answer key will be released shortly, but no answer key has been released for the examination as of yet.

Furthermore, despite the promises of releasing a full-answer key for the examination which would allow NEET PG test-takers to assess their overall performance on the exam through calculating their raw scores, the board revised their statement by stating only question-IDs will be released instead. This contributed to the growing sense of distrust with the exam board by exam aspirants.
This lack of accountability and transparency has been significantly contributing to the growing sense of distrust with the board. In previous years as well, the board had made last-minute changes to the exam pattern and the introduction of normalization of exam shifts. Even last year, the NBEMS was under scrutiny by students and was directed by the Supreme Court of India to thoroughly explain their introduction and overall process of normalization for the NEET PG examination.
Moving Forward with the NEET Exam
All of the aforementioned factors combined have caused students to raise concerns about score-manipulation and the overall integrity of the exam due to the growing lack of accountability and transparency by the NBEMS. As students rally for better practices by the exam board by filing the PIL with the Supreme Court, there has been loud support of the movement on social media platforms as well, echoing the sentiments shared with the court.
With the story developing and the practices of the board being raised across the country, aspiring students hope for a better, fair and more transparent process conducted by the NBEMS as they await their response.
