Established in the year 1968, Calicut University is situated in Thrissur is one of the largest University of the state and the second University set up in the state after the University of Kerala. The University was established to smooth education stream of Kerala University and was created jointly by the Government of State and Kerala University. The four post-graduate departments of the University of Kerala operating in Calicut were documented to the new University along with 54 constituent colleges spread across seven northern districts.

The University of Calicut at present comprises 30 postgraduate departments, and 426 colleges are affiliated to the University of Calicut in Kerala. Every year thousands of students become part of this growing organization and today it is the largest residential cum affiliating University in Kerala. 

The UGC has acknowledged it, and the AICTE has given it approval. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has awarded the university accreditation with an "A" grade. Following the guidelines below, candidates can apply through the centralized admission process: 

  • By selling all of the personal data, such as the student's email address and mobile number, the candidate must generate the CAP ID. 
  • After providing all the information and creating a CAP ID and password, select "register" from the menu.
  • Complete the student profile by entering all pertinent information, including qualifying exam results and a photograph that complies with the form's size requirements.
  • Save the information, then go.

Teaching and Research Centre at the University of Calicut:

The University of Calicut has an Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC), which is one of the 17 centers setups of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to produce video programs to broadcast on Doordarshan network. Dr. John Matthai Centre:

Dr. John Matthai Centre is of exceptional importance to the Calicut University. The center was named after former finance minister Dr. John Matthai. The Department of Economics was established on the land donated by Dr. John Matthai. Slowly, the department had grown into the center for higher studies in the field of Economics. At Calicut University, there are still openings for admission to the UG, PG, Integrated, and Ph.D. programs. The university has made available the outcomes of seat distribution for various courses. The university's official website provides candidates with access to this information. 

  • The Calicut University Ph.D. admissions cycle for 2023 is currently open. Distance Education Program at the University of Calicut:

Under Graduate Distance Courses

The University offers three distance education in Business Administration and five in Commerce & Arts. The students can apply for the distant undergraduate courses by applying online at the official website of Calicut University by filling the requisite details like the personal details, academic details, signature, photo, etc. and Challan details.
 
Post Graduate Distance Courses

The University offers one distance course in Commerce, one in Science stream and eleven master's degree courses in Arts. The candidates have to follow the same procedure as in the case of Under Graduate Distant courses to avail the remote mode education.

Doctoral & Research Programmes at the University of Calicut:

The admissions to Calicut University for Ph.D. and M.Phil programmes is made by the entrance test conducted by the University. The candidate will be admitted to the course on the basis of marks obtained in the exam followed by the interview. The test is of two hours duration and consist of both objective and subject questions of 50 marks each in the paper.

Calicut University B.Tech Eligibility Criteria

B.Tech

  • Candidates for the B.Tech degree who have passed the HSE, Kerala, or examinations recognized as equivalent thereto with 50% in PCM and 50% in Mathematics. 
  • The candidate's scores in computer science will be taken into account if chemistry was not one of their studies. 

B.Tech (LE)

  • Candidates must have successfully completed an institutional course lasting at least three years and earned a Diploma in Engineering from the State Board of Technical Education or an equivalent, with a minimum grade of 60%. 
  • For diploma candidates who are members of the SC/ST community, a minimum of 50% is required. Only the branch of engineering in which they received their diploma, or branches that are equivalent, will be eligible for later entry.
  • The Kerala State Government's Commissioner for Entrance Examinations has established the requirements for admission.

Calicut University B.Tech Admission Process

JEE Mains:

Depending on the type of candidacy, there are different application fees for taking this exam. It costs INR 325 to apply for the general category. The requirements and procedure for JEE Mains registration are explained in the section that follows.

Documents Required:

  • A recent, color or black-and-white (but with clear contrast) scanned photo in the JPG or PNG format should be between 10 and 200 kb in size.
  • JPG/JPEG-formatted scanned signature. Size ought to range from 4 kb to 30 kb. 
  • Applications with illegible photos will be disregarded.

  • Click "Fill Online Application Form" on the JEE Main official website.
  • Enter your information to create a user ID and password by registering.
  • After providing the necessary information for registration, the application number will be generated.
  • Address, phone number, and personal information are requested on the form.

KEAM Application Process

Students who want to study subjects like engineering, architecture, or management at any of Kerala University's campuses must take the KEAM exam. When applying for Engineering, there is a 700 INR (general category) application fee and a 300 INR (reserved category) application fee.

Below is the application procedure:

  • For a brand-new user ID and password to be created, the students must first register.
  • Uploading requirements include a scanned copy of a current photo, a signature, and a left thumbprint impression.
  • Fill out the application form with your course preference, academic and personal information, a caste certificate, and financial information.
  • You can pay the fee online or with an e-challan, a printout of which you must keep for your records.

  • Birth certificate to prove the date of birth  
  • A conduct certificate and a transfer certificate from the last institution you attended. 
  • The original qualifying examination (Higher Secondary or equivalent) mark list and the qualifying examination pass certificate (if issued).

A three-year, full-time BBA program is available from Calicut University. Admission to the program is determined by performance on the qualifying exam.

Calicut University UG Eligibility Criteria

  • BA: Applicants must have passed the Kerala State Board's HSE exam or a test that is recognized as being an equivalent. 
  • B.Sc. : Successfully completed 10+2 with 50% in Mathematics/Biology and combined marks of 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • B.Com. :Applicants must have at least one commerce subject on their HSE from the Kerala State Board or from another exam recognized as being equivalent. Candidates who did not study commerce for Higher Secondary or an equivalent exam and received at least 45% of the possible points are also eligible.

Calicut University UG Selection Criteria

  • BA:A total of 2 extra points out of a possible 50 for those who have taken the subject they have applied for or studied as an elective in HSE or an institution equivalent.
  • B.Sc.: For the UG CAP (counselling process), candidates are chosen based on their 10+2 grade point average.

A two-year, full-time Masters of Business Administration (MBA) program is available from Calicut University. There are two specializations available for the course: international finance and health care. The Department of Commerce and Management Studies (DCMS) at the university also provides a part-time MBA (weekend) program. 1410 students in total have applied to the university's MBA program. 

Calicut University MBA Eligibility Criteria

  • Any regular-stream degree offered by the University of Calicut or by another institution that has been approved by the UGC or AICTE in the 10+2+3 pattern (or 10+2+4). In every situation, the student must possess a bachelor's degree with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 50%. 
  • Marks will be relaxed in accordance with the rules (5% for OBC and other eligible communities, and a mere pass for SC/ST). 
  • In addition to the other requirements, the MBA evening program also requires two years of work experience. 
  • Two-year veterans would be taken into consideration if there weren't enough applicants.

Calicut University M.Tech Selection Criteria

GATE scores are used by Calicut University to determine admission to the B.Tech program. Candidates must take part in the counseling process for the final seat allocation in order to be selected. For applicants who have not taken the GATE exam, Calicut University also administers an entrance exam.

Students who want to apply for a master's or PhD program must take the GATE exam. The registration process and documentation requirements are explained in the section below.

Documents Required

  • Signed and scanned in with a photo 
  • Valid photo identification is required, such as an Aadhaar card, passport, driver's license, PAN card, voter ID, college ID, employee identification card, or notarized affidavit with a photo, signature, date of birth, and residential address.
  • Certificate of Degree, Provisional Certificate, or Certificate of Course Completion.
  • A copy of the fifth, sixth, and seventh semester grades.
  • Students in their final year must submit a Provisional Certificate Letter in the format required by their institute's home office, dean, registrar, or head of department.
  • In the event that they have professional equivalent qualifications, candidates in the final year of the AMIE must submit their mark sheet for Section A of the AMIE.
  • Caste certificate, disability certificate, or PwD certificate, as appropriate.
  • Candidates who are pursuing a master's or higher degree must submit proof of their qualifying degree

Calicut University PG Eligibility Criteria

MA: 

1.            Economics: 

  • A B.A. from the University of Calicut in Economics, Foreign Trade, or Development Economics with at least 55% in Part III (excluding subsidiaries) or an equivalent grade OR 
  • Statistics/Mathematics/Computer Science (Main/core) with 70% marks for Part III (excluding subsidiaries) or an equivalent grade are required for the BSc degree from this university.

2.            English: 

  • B.A. English & History/BA Functional English/B.A. English Language & Literature with at least 45% marks OR
  • B.A./B.Sc. (excluding alternative pattern) degree from this university, or an equivalent degree, with at least 45% in Part I English. 
  • Candidates should have obtained a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 50%. 

3.            Political Science: 

  • Under the grading scale, you need a BA in political science with a minimum of one main paper (BA public administration, BA west Asian studies, etc.) or a complementary or subsidiary paper in political science with a minimum grade of 45%. 
  • Undergraduation: BA Degree in Political Science (Core), or any other Degree with at least one Core Course (BA Public Administration / BA West Asian Studies) or Complementary Course in Political Science (Complementary Courses: Political Science, Indian Constitution and Politics, International Relations & Organizations, and Public Administration) with overall CGPA equal to 50%

4.            History: Any First degree from the University of Calicut, or a degree of equal standing with at least 50% of the required marks, or an equivalent grade for Part III, excluding subsidiaries and complementary degrees. 

5.            Malayalam: 

  • BA in Malayalam with a minimum of 45% on the Part III examination. 
  • Malayalam in Part II of a BA/BSc degree (excluding alternative patterns) with at least 45% marks from this university or an equivalent degree. 
  • Candidates should have obtained a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 50%. 

M.Sc.:

  • Statistics: A B.Sc. degree from this university, or an equivalent degree, with at least 50% marks or an equivalent grade in Statistics, Applied Statistics (Main), Mathematics & Statistics (Double Main/core), or Mathematics (Main/core) with Statistics as one of the subsidiaries.
  • Forensic Science: Students who have earned a B.Sc. in Forensic Science, a B.Voc. in Forensic Science, or a B.Voc. in Applied Microbiology & Forensic Science and who received at least 60% on their entrance examination scores. 
  • Physics: A B.Sc. in Physics/Applied Physics from this university, or an equivalent degree, with Mathematics as a required complementary course and a minimum score of 50% on Part III.
  • Computer Science: The applicant must have earned a BSc with at least 55% overall or an equivalent grade. (CS/IT/Electronics/Electronics and Telecommunication or Electronics and Communication) BCA/B.Tech/BE (Physics/Mathematics/Statistics/Chemistry/CS/IT/Electronics/BCA/B.Tech/BE) 
  • Biochemistry: A B.Sc. degree from this university, or an equivalent or recognized degree, with Biochemistry (Core/Main) and at least 50% of the grade in that subject. 

 

Integrated M.Sc.: 50% in the relevant B.Sc.

 

M.Com.: Any candidate who has earned a B.Com. or BBA from the University of Calicut or from another university or institute that is recognized by the UGC or AICTE with a minimum of 45% marks or an equivalent grade is eligible.

 

M.Ed.: Any candidate for the M.Ed. program must have a B.Ed. or another bachelor's degree that is accepted by the UGC or AICTE and have a minimum of 45% overall or an equivalent grade.

 

M.Lib. I. Sc.: Any undergraduate degree from this university or an equivalent degree with a minimum of 50% qualifying marks or an equivalent grade for Part III (including subsidiaries and complementaries) is required.

 

MPED: 

  • Candidates should have earned a minimum of 50% overall or an equivalent grade in their three- or four-year Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.E.) or Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed., integrated) degrees from any other university recognized by the University of Calicut. 
  • Candidates must be younger than 28 as of July 1 and physically capable of completing the demanding daily physical activities.
  • Candidates should also be free of any physical or mental impairments. 

 

MSW: Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 50% overall marks or a grade in any field of study accepted by the University of Calicut. A student's overall grade or marks are determined by adding their part I English and part III (Core & Complementary) grades together. 

 

MTA: Pass in B.T.A. or any degree that has been approved by this university plus theater-related work experience 

1.   M.Phil: Students are eligible for admission if they have a valid master's degree and a minimum cumulative grade point average of 55% in the desired subject. The degree has to be from a reputable college or university.

Calicut University PG Selection Criteria

Selection is based on merit and an interview for the MA, M.Sc., M.Com, M.Ed., and MLISc degrees.

Integrated M.Sc. : Admission is determined by entrance exam score. The information about the entrance exam is as follows:

  • The exam will last two hours and have 100 multiple-choice questions.
  • Correct answers will receive 4 points, while incorrect answers will receive 1 point less.
  • The following subjects will be covered in the questions: Maths 10, Botany 25, Zoology 25, Chemistry 25, and Physics 15.

MPED: In accordance with results from the university entrance exam. The two branches of selection are:

  • 50 points for the entrance exam. 
  • Game Mastery & Accomplishment: 25 Marks 
  • 15 points on the AAHPERD Physical Fitness Test 
  • Sports Excellence: 10 Points

MSW: Decisions are made in light of test results from universities. There are two divisions of the weightage:

  • 50% on the qualifying exam's I English and III Core & Complementary parts. 
  • 20% of the entrance examination score. 
  • 15% of the final grade will be based on the interview. 
  • Group discussions receive 15% of the total points.

MTA: In accordance with results from the university entrance exam. The selection procedure is broken down into: 

  • 30 percent of the possible points on the qualifying exam. 
  • 30% of the entrance exam score. 
  • 40% of an interview's grade.

Calicut University offers M.Phil & Ph.D. program across multiple specalisations. For admission, candidates need to appear for the written test and a personal interview conducted by the university. 

Calicut University M.Phil & Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

  • The relaxation of marks/grades is only permitted based on the qualifying marks exclusive of the grace mark procedures, and the eligibility mark of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever a grading system is used) is required.
  • Candidates may conduct research leading to a PhD degree at the same institution if they have successfully completed an M.Phil. with at least a grade of "B" on the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent) and at least 55% of their total marks.

Calicut University M.Phil & Ph.D. Selection Criteria

  • Selections are made based on the results of the UGC-NET, GATE, or GPAT entrance exams. These students are not required to take the internal entrance examination.
  • Students who do not meet the requirements for the aforementioned national exams must take an internal university entrance exam.
  • Students would get further be shortlisted for PI and GD.

M.Phil.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates for admission must have a valid master's degree with a minimum cumulative score of 55% in the desired subject. The degree must be from a fairly recognized university or institution. 

Selection Criteria

  • By passing the GATE or UGC-NET exam or through merit, students can be admitted directly into the M.Phil program. 
  • Depending on the department, applicants may need to take an internal exam for admission.

Calicut University Application Process

The steps listed below can be used by the applicant to submit an application through the central admissions process: 

1.    The candidate must obtain the CAP ID by selling all of the personal data, such as the student's email address and mobile number. 

2.    After providing all the information and creating a CAP ID and password, select "register" from the menu.

3.    Complete the student profile by entering all pertinent information, including qualifying exam results and a photograph that complies with the form's size requirements.

4.    Save the details and proceed

5.    Next, pick your college course.

6.    After choosing a course, click "Final Submit" to pay the fees.

7.    Pay the online registration fee, which is INR 115 for SC and ST students and INR 280 for general category students.
