Tumkur University is a state university developed in 2004 with a vision “ TO CREATE A GENERATION OF HUMAN RESOURCES TO SUCCESSFULLY MEET THE GLOBAL CHALLENGES“. The university has 101 faculty member who is working very hard. They believe in knowledge sharing and in balanced development. The faculties are one of the most competitive and qualified ones because they keep themselves updated by regularly publishing research papers in new media and well known nationally as well as international journals, they are constantly a part of several academic events including workshops and conferences.
This university is known as one of the youngest universities in our country, basically, this university was developed with a motive to fulfill the education requirement of students around Tumkur because most of the crowd near Tumkur is occupied by rural people. Under the Karnataka State Universities Rating Framework (KSURF) this university has been given the rating of ‘three stars' on the basis of many factors like social inclusiveness, knowledge production, knowledge production, teaching, placement, teaching, employment opportunities, research domain, impact on society, facilities and innovation. Tumkur University has near about seventeen departments of Postgraduate Studies and Research in Arts, Science, management and commerce as well. There are eight-six colleges which are affiliated by Tumkur University. Tumkur University is one of the most renowned universities of Karnataka. Considering the research work of Tumkur university there are 62 research projects by many agencies like Department of science and technology (DST), ICSSR, Vision group on science and technology (VGST), Indian space research organization (ISRO), ICHR, British Council, Science and engineering research board (SERB), Government of Karnataka, etc.
Tata Institute of social sciences (Mumbai), Institute of Rouen (France), Mangalore University (Bangalore), Intel (India), Institute for social and economic change (Bangalore) and National Law School of India University (Bangalore) are the organizations which have collaborated with Tumkur University of Karnataka.

As per the initiative by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) one of the agriculture-friendly venture named as Automated weather station (AWS) was established in Tumkur university's campus in May 2010. This AWS is capable enough to provide the weather update in a range of near about 80km and this is used by students and professors to do the research. Not only AWS but with collaboration with Indian Space Organization (ISRO), the campus also has Remote Sensing Centre with the advanced software in the campus itself. This Remote Sensing Centre in the campus of Tumkur university not only a good source for students and teachers to perform the research but is also the center which collects the data on the availability of mineral, groundwater, fisheries, biodiversity and green cover availability. Through this project, there are many sections of society who get the benefits (like farmers).
Tumkur University has a lab, classrooms, auditorium, library, applied sciences, computer labs, sport, emerging technologies and seminar halls and wifi available in the campus.
Tumkur University has two colleges:
1)University College of Arts: Actually this college was established in 1940 names as Intermediate College. Then it was in late 1948 this college was converted to be a government college and in 1966 this college shifted to an 80-acre campus. Then in 1974 the college was turned into Government Arts College and Government Science College and later in 2009 it was recognized by Tumkur University and was renamed as ‘University College of Arts‘.
2)University College of Science: This was developed in 1940 named as Erstwhile Government Science College and it was also an intermediate college later it was upgraded as a degree college. In 1973 this college was turned into Science and Arts Colleges. In 2009 this was recognized by Tumkur University, Karnataka and was given the name ‘ University College of Science ‘.
