Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala Admission
The application procedure of Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, previously known as Thapar University, is to be accomplished online by visiting the official website of the university. The institute accepts online mode of application. The application form can be obtained on the official website of the university.
Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology Courses include programs at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The institute also offers a program at the Doctorate level. These programs are offered under several specializations. The candidates seeking admission must ensure that they fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria defined by the institute. Following are the minimum educational qualification required at each level.
Minimum Educational Qualification Required
For undergraduate programs
- Candidates seeking admission to B. E. and B. Tech. must have passed senior secondary school with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology and Computer Science securing at least 60% marks (55% marks for reserved categories) from a recognized board.
- For admission to B. E. and B. Tech. (Lateral Entry), the candidates must hold a diploma of 3 years of duration after senior secondary school in the relevant field securing at least 60% marks in aggregate.
- Candidates with B. Sc. From a recognized university securing at least 60% marks in aggregate are also eligible for admission to B. E. and B. Tech. (Lateral Entry).
- For admission to Integrated BE-MBA, the candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology and technical Vocational securing at least 60% marks in aggregate.
- For admission to B. Tech. in Biotechnology, the candidates must have passed senior secondary school with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology securing at least 60% marks in aggregate.
For postgraduate programs
- For admission to M. E. and M. Tech., the candidates must have completed B. E./B. Tech. in the relevant field securing at least 60% marks in aggregate.
- Candidates who have completed M. Sc. In the relevant field are also eligible to apply for M. E. and M. Tech.
- Candidates seeking admission to MBA must have graduated in any field securing at least 50% marks in aggregate from a recognized university.
- For admission to M. A. in Psychology, the candidates must have passed Bachelor’s degree in Psychology/Arts/Science/Allied Sciences securing at least 50% marks in aggregate.
- For admission to M. Sc., the candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in the science stream securing at least 60% marks in aggregate.
- Candidates seeking admission to MCA must have possessed a bachelor’s degree in any discipline securing at least 60% marks in aggregate.
- Candidates must have studied Mathematics in senior secondary school for admission to MCA.
For Ph. D. program
Candidates seeking admission to Ph. D. program must have completed their master’s in the relevant field securing at least 55% marks in aggregate from a recognized university.
Admission to the undergraduate programs at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology
Candidates seeking admission to the undergraduate programs offered by the institute must register themselves by visiting the official websites of the institute.
- For admission to B. E., B. Tech. and Integrated BE-MBA, the candidates must qualify JEE Main examination and for lateral entry admissions, the candidates are shortlisted based on the merit in LEET-TIET.
Admission to the postgraduate programs at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology
- Candidates seeking admission to M. E. and M. Tech. must appear in and qualify GATE examination. The candidates are shortlisted based on their performance in GATE followed by personal interview round.
- Admission to MBA is done based on the marks obtained by the candidates in CAT/MAT/XAT/NMAT/CMAT/GMAT entrance examinations. Final selection is made based on their performance followed by group discussion and personal interview rounds.
- Form admission to MA, the candidates are shortlisted based on merit list based on marks obtained by the candidates in senior secondary school and graduation.
Admission to Ph. D. at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology
- Candidates willing to take admission to Ph. D. are required to have passed the written examination test followed by personal interview round conducted by the institute.
Application Procedure of Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology
Candidates seeking admission to the courses offered by the institute must visit the official website of the institute since the institute accepts online mode of application. They must fill the online application form and provide all the academic and personal details correctly.
While filling the application form, the candidates must process the payment of application fee via online mode of application i.e. net banking, debit card, or credit card.

A College worth Joining!!
Placement: In Civil engineering average package goes between 8-9 lacs in 2016. Last year placement went very well. Over 230 offers were given to student from companies. This year 2K18 over 100 offers are given. From which over 115 placements have been done. Last year in computer Science department the placement percentage was 80%

Best place to walk-in with all your heart and soul.
Placement: Thapar is a reputed college, and is renowned for it’s placements, as most of the students here get placed ( 95-100% ). The highest package has been of 38 Lacs and the lowest is 3.5 Lacs per annum. Companies like D. E. SHAW usually visits thapar for the recruitment of new talents and brains. There is a special placement cell in the college and the students starts getting internships in the 5th semester only, on the basis of their knowledge in their respective streams. So, overall it’s a good college, if judged on the basis of placements.

Best University in terms of Education and Facility.
Placement: Placements are good in Thapar and that is why it has maintained its name among the best colleges in Punjab.Average salary is about Rs 6 lakhs. Companies like Texas Instruments, Sandisk and Microsoft visit the campus.
About the internships-
There are ample of opportunities for Mechanical branch and CS(with good companies like Microsoft and Amazon visiting the campus). Some companies also visit the campus for ECE (and related profiles of EIC and Electrical). But mostly one has to rely on the vacancies (apply online for internships) or rely on his/her contacts.

Placement: Placements offered here are worth the money you put here. Placements are average for computer science branch and the packages offered were around 8 lacs per annum which is quite good for a private college. We have good alumni and Thapar institute has strong roots regarding placements. All the good companies like D.E.Shaw, Amazon, etc. visit our college for placements

Faculty: The teachers of this institution are very much qualified, knowledgeable as well as helpful. If any student approaches them, they surely listen to them and solve their query. Also, there is no problem regarding lack of teachers of any subject. Electronic media is used sometimes, but it’s not so helpful as it seems to be, and the student has to put their own effort in order to get into their subject of interest as the college is recruiting more and more students each year. The course curriculum is useful and they cover a variety of syllabus, so as to get the student, exposure of all the things related to that or nearby it

Best University in terms of Education and Facility.
Faculty: Academics is good in Thapar university. All classes are engaged in time. Each student is required to keep his attendance record above 75% to prevent detention from that subject. Some Professors are really good and helpful and most professors can be easily accessed outside the classroom.Classes are engaged from 8-5 but actual schedule may vary from branch to branch. We have a CGPA system here (some college also follow % system). At the end of the semester students can also rate the quality and methodology of teaching by filling a SRS(Student Response Survey)

Faculty: The faculty is highly qualified with nice work experience. You will also have elective courses where you can learn something out of the syllabus of your branch. New courses like electronics and computer provide a nice platform for doing MS mechatronics in foreign which has a good scope in future.
