Over 3.27 Lakh Students Register for MP Board Class 10, 12 Second Attempt Exams; To Begin from June 17

In a major move aimed at improving student outcomes and reducing dropout rates, the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) is conducting MP Class 10 and 12 second attempt exams for the first time within the same academic year. Over 3.27 lakh students have registered to appear in these exams, which are scheduled to be held from June 17 to July 5, 2025.

This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and follows a key amendment to the MPBSE Regulations, 1965, enabling students to retake board exams in the same academic session to either clear failed subjects or improve their marks.

Significant Student Participation

The response from students has been overwhelming. According to official data, out of the 5,07,304 students who failed the MP Board exams 2025, over 3,27,000 have opted for this second chance.

The registration process, which ended on June 8, 2025 after multiple deadline extensions, witnessed strong participation from both Class 10 and Class 12 students. Students who passed the main board exams but aimed to improve their scores were allowed to apply until May 25, while students who failed had until May 31, with the final extension running to June 8.

Exam Schedule & Protocol

The second attempt exams will follow the same format and procedures as the main board exams. According to Bhupesh Gupta, Chief Systems Officer, MPBSE, “The rules and procedures for these exams will be the same as the main board exams. Question papers will be supplied by the board, and the same examination protocol will be followed.”

All subjects for both Class 10 and 12 will be covered during this second attempt exam window from June 17 to July 5, 2025.

Marksheets & Provisional Admissions

Students who successfully clear the second attempt will be issued a regular marksheet. For Class 10 students, this will enable provisional admission to Class 11, while MP Class 12 students will be eligible for provisional admission to colleges. Final confirmation of admissions will depend on their successful completion of the second attempt exams.

A Progressive Step Forward

This move is seen as a progressive reform under the NEP 2020, providing a second chance for students at risk of academic setbacks. The board expects that this initiative will significantly reduce dropout rates and encourage students to continue their education rather than abandon their academic journeys due to poor results in a single attempt.

As students gear up for these crucial exams starting June 17, the education community is hopeful that this step will foster a more inclusive and flexible learning environment across Madhya Pradesh.
