The CMAT Exam Pattern used to be set by All India Council for Technical Education but CMAT 2020 is now being conducted by the National Testing Agency. From now onwards, CMAT 2020 Exam Pattern is now designed by the National Testing Agency. As per the CMAT Exam Pattern, the entrance examination is conducted to determine admissions into programs on the like of MBA, PGDM and PGCM Programs offered across various schools. Candidates who would complete CMAT Registration successfully between 1st November 2019 and 30th November 2019 would be allowed to take the CMAT examination.

As NTA is conducting CMAT 2020, for now, it's expected that no changes are introduced in CMAT Examination Pattern. The CMAT 2020 Examination is scheduled for 24th January 2020 in 2 shifts.

NTA can release the official mock tests for CMAT shortly at the official website of CMAT i.e. ntacmat.ac.in. These can facilitate the candidates to familiarize themselves with the screens, layout, and navigation. Download Free CMAT Sample Papers available on the official website.

The CMAT Exam Pattern consists of the following sections:

  • Language Comprehension
  • Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation
  • Logical Reasoning
  • General Awareness

CMAT 2019

Each section has 25 questions, a total of 100 questions with every question carrying 4 marks. Understanding CMAT Exam Pattern is important to everyone as it will determine their preparation for the same accordingly.

The important characteristics of CMAT Exam Pattern are:

  • CMAT is a computer based online examination for determining admission into AICTE approved programs.
  • CMAT 2018 would be consisting of a single session and would be having 4 sections.
  • The total number of questions would be about 100, with every section having 25 questions.
  • There would be four options given to every question from which the candidate would be picking up one option. 
  • The duration of the entrance examination would be for 3 hours. 
  • There is no time limit that has been set for any section, about an hour would be ideal for every section.

Section Wise Analysis of CMAT Exam Pattern

CMAT 2020 Exam Pattern for Language Comprehension

  • Questions from para-jumbles fill within the blanks, identification of word sense by choosing correct word and opposite, idioms, sentence correction, identification of correct sentence, etc. are normally asked during this section.
  • Reading comprehension is one of the most important parts of this section. It's suggested that candidates must go through newspapers, novels, etc. thoroughly on a daily basis to develop a reading habit and sharpen their verbal ability skills.
  • The passages are of 500-600 words that don't seem to be too tough. Also, there's no fastened rule on framing queries in Reading Comprehension.

CMAT 2020 Exam Pattern for Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation

  • For this section, candidates should work on their speed and potency. The calculation is an important issue once it involves lengthy queries during this section.
  • Questions during this section are typically single and don't seem to be supported sets
  • Arithmetic operations associated degrees and Modern Mathematics form an integral part of the section.
  • Candidates are suggested to own sensible proficiency in determination of the issues from topics like Time and Distance, Geometry, Numbers, Profit and Loss, straightforward equations and Time and Work

CMAT 2020 Exam Pattern for Logical Reasoning

  • In this section, most of the queries are typically from topics like Puzzles, Statements and Conclusions, Cause and Effect, Assumptions and Conclusions and missing term within the figure.
  • Topics from arrangements such ad linear, seating, sequencing and composing with conditions are also asked.

CMAT 2020 Exam Pattern for General Awareness

  • Questions in General Awareness Section are divided into three parts- typical, Current and Business.
  • For this section, candidates are suggested to be updated with the present affairs, particularly within the Business And social science section.
  • Basic data of Science, History, Inventions, Book authors and Indian politics will facilitate candidates to answer the queries during this section.

More about CMAT 2020 Exam Pattern

  • Every correct answer in CMAT would be awarded 4 marks and a negative marking of -1 for every wrong answer. A trial test would be made available for the candidates to get an overview of the examination. 
  • These points need to be kept in mind by every candidate to attempt CMAT in order to excel in the examination.
  • CMAT is a 3-hour Computer Based Test wherein the number of questions, difficulty level and time duration of every section is determined in advance and are the same regardless of test administration.
  • The Quantitative and Data Interpretation section has a difficulty level that is of moderate difficulty. The topics usually covered in this section are Mensuration, Number System, Profit and Loss, Averages and Logarithms etc. Practice regularly to get conceptual clarity on the ones mentioned.
  • A lot of reading in terms of the newspapers, novels and magazines would help a candidate to understand and do the exam well. Topics like Reading Comprehension, Idioms, Vocabulary would be tested from the Language section.
  • 25 questions from General Awareness section are divided into Static GK and Current GK. The candidate should invest time across both the sections in equal measure.
